BP revealed shops

Has anyone ever done these? I see them all the time and wonder if they are worth it! I believe I may have to take a certification before I can start...

Depending on how well you prep, you can get done with a location within 20 minutes? Then another 20 minutes or so minimum or reporting. Maybe that can give you an idea if it's worth your time or not on the pay that's available ot you.. Again, this is based on my reporting history.

Shopping the Greater Denver Area, Colorado Springs and in-between in Colorado. 33 year old male and willing to travel!
I'm curious...is it mostly taking pictures or mostly conversing with the manager? I've been mystery shopping for several years, but haven't done many revealed shops.

Have you performed revealed gas station shops for other MSC's before? If so, they're very similar... Mystery shop portion and then a basic branding and compliance audit per the operator's standards.

I haven't...I've done regular gas stations before, but nothing that was revealed.
I just got assigned my first one and would love some tips on how to do it successfully. I’m reading the material they sent and it seems like a lot of information. I’ve never done any gas station shops or revealed shops. A scheduler called me and asked if I’d like to try one out, so I decided to give it a try!

I do a ton...as much as you can, try to do the pictures in the same order so you can get in a "groove" and not forget something. When in doubt, take a picture and you can review it at home to see if you truly need it. The company recommends that you use the phone app, however I have found that unless I know that it's a really solid signal and my phone is very up to date, the app tends to glitch on me (plus it uses a lot of battery power so that cuts down on the number that I do each day). When you do the reveal part, smile and don't make it a big deal (I tend to refer to it as a site visit, otherwise customers and employees get nervous...the more nonchalant you can be the better). Most people don't even realize that you are there, however if someone questions me I just reply brand imaging check and they move along quickly. I also take my overall pictures as quickly as I could because getting at the pumps while empty can be a challenge. Do the first couple systematically using your picture list, figure out your rhythm, and they will be super easy after that. I love them because it covers my gas and I don't have to write any reports. Gas stations are pretty much all I do each month and I make decent cash for a part-time gig.
BPs are different than most shops. Most gas stations you get gas, go in and purchase and then reveal. With BP, you go inside, purchase and then reveal BEFORE you go out and get gas. Most require a picture of every pump which can take a while if there are a lot of pumps or you have to wait for the pump to clear due to cars getting gas.

I do some but like other types of shops better.

Thank you for the information! I plan on completing it tomorrow so I will definitely keep your tips in mind. I’ll probably take the information booklet with me to be sure I don’t miss anything.

I've done quite a number of these. IMO, one of the most important parts is the debrief. Always be sure to comment on any aspect of the shop that might be different, unusual or just unique. I always comment on some part of the shop. As it says in their guidelines, the comment section is the most underused part of the debrief.

Last of all, because of the sequence of actions these shops are to be done (go inside, check restroom, make purchase), before the reveal, I have noticed after the reveal, an employee running out to the forecourt to ensure all is clean.

Makes no difference to me. I just report what I see and back it up with a photo.
