Ikea

Disclaimer: I know it has been discussed recently, but I was unable to find the threads with the "search" feature....
Okay, I'm feeling tempted.... I know the MSC well and so there is no need to comment on that... But....

I am tempted to pick up the Ikea shop nearby. The description says that the shop has been simplified and shortened.... I last did this shop two years ago. Is it shorter? Is it worth the $70 currently being offered? For those of you who have tackled it recently, how is it? Etc....

Thanks.

MF, when I did the shop in 2016, I mentally prepared to spend the day in the store and on the report. I really did enjoy that shop. The most difficult part of the report was the platform timing out. You know you have to chase them for payment.

I say you go for it and enjoy!

That’s about when I last did it..... I am hoping that the revisions since then have shortened it. I don’t want to spend all day on it.....

I actually spent 2-3 hours in the store, and, thanks to a bottle of Butter chardonnay, no clue how much time I spent on the report. If I recall correctly, it was yes/no buttons with a narrative for each section.

It took me, recently, a couple of hours in the store and at least two hours to write the report. Wine would probably help. By the time I was done, I was swearing I would not do it again, but it's not THAT bad. It's just tedious. Be ready to take great notes during the shop, after each interaction, and it will help a lot.

Okay, so I don't know how you will answer this, but surely there is a way! They are building a new Ikea near me, FINALLY! What company do I need to be signed up with to try out this shop you are talking about?

Because mystery shoppers are required to sign Independent Contractor Agreements (ICA), which almost always contain strict confidentiality clauses, anyone signed up with the company that shops IKEA cannot answer your question. In addition, because of confidentiality requirements, our forum guidelines state "Do not reveal the clients of mystery shopping companies."

We do have a list of mystery shopping companies to sign up with: [www.mysteryshopforum.com]

Many posters here are signed up with at least 50; some have signed up with all or most of the companies on the list. The more companies you sign up with, the more opportunities you will see.

$70
3 hours in store, including the drive time
2 hours to report

Assuming no expenses (taxes, mileage, etc), that's $14 an hour.

You wasted 5 hours shopping, for $70. That's a terrible rate.

Note to others:

When you do a terrible job like this, make note that "I'm never doing this again!"

That's how I feel when I get offered the Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas. Hell no! I have not forgotten what a terrible report that was and massive amount of time that took. Not even with a huge bonus. I need $500 plus travel to go back for that, and I'd probably still be @#$%&-ing about it.
I decided to pass.....

What the heck?
This report takes too long, is a huge pain, and you’ll get paid around Christmas if you shop in early August.

Can you explain your logic?

I'm told I have a tendency to look at things too strictly. However, to me, "giving a hint" that is designed to reveal the name of the MSC that shops IKEA is revealing the information. To me, "giving a hint" is the same as giving the name of the MSC. I see no difference. Anyone inclined to "give a hint" should just go ahead and tell it like it is - say "Yes, I'm breaking my ICA and the name of the MSC is ____." Of course, that's just me. There are others who think "a hint" is not a violation because they haven't actually SAID the name.

In any case, reading over the prior posts,, there have been several hints. Read the thread again and maybe you will get the hints. But that's the problem with most "hints." Those who want the hints still don't get it ..... and say "can I get another hint?" and "Oooh, that's hard, how about another hint?" and it begs the question how many hints can you give before you just break down and break the ICA and TELL the name?
Okay. I see your point. No need to go on. I have signed up for 22 companies in the past 2 weeks, and have not come across an Ikea. I was just excited to see it. No need to reply. I get it.

Go find some better companies. You should go to IKEA on a day off and enjoy it. This shop is the worst.

If you really want this, search for threads on the worst MCS's. You'll find it.
Thank you for the recommendation! I like creamy chardonnays. How does Once Upon A Vine compare to Butter? Do you have any other recommendations?

It wasn't a waste for me. You don't know why I shop or what my goals are. You have no right or reason to claim that.

OK. In general $14 an hour is not a good rate for an IC, but you may be doing something differently than others.
About that $14 per hour income. How does this compare to the related hourly expenditures? Is this use of time better for any reason than other potential uses of time? It might be a very good thing for some people.

Anyway, I don't know about an IKEA shop for me. The closest IKEA is three hours from home. How long would my first IKEA shop/report take? Would I become efficient over time? If so, could I then include IKEA in my little two-day mini routes?

This probably is not a shop you would want to do more than once. You get paid 4 months later, and that's if you chase your payment. The MSC is very difficult to work with in that regards.

I love doing IKEA shops. The reports are not bad, sometimes some of the questions are redundant given the opening question of a section answer is N/A, therefore, the rest of the questions are MUTE. I performed 9 in two months with different focus area. The report took only 45 to an hour. It is quick and easy money especially if you do it during the week or hit IKEA when it opens you will be done within an hour if not less.
I also only accept them when there is a substantial bonus. Four times I have done a shop where I received $100 for one encounter.
Oh, the most important reason I excepted these particular assignments was I went there with my grandchildren to search, price and purchase items for camp and college. It was a win-win for me.
I spend HOURS wandering around IKEA just on my own, discovering things I didn't even know I needed. Having a shop to do would pretty much waste the day for me. Hubby hates it when I come home with IKEA crud requiring assembly. Our bed took 4 days + 2 trips to Hm Despot to put together.
Monk-N-Nut, yes you can get lost and caught up but when I am combining complete an assignment and shopping with the grands I have strict rules. Look through the catalog at home make a list look and only those items after that I go to the cafe and eat and compile the elements of my report while the grands wonder and take photos. Then we go home and they order online.
The Ikea shops have a focus area? When I did one, I had to have deep interactions with about ten departments...
