Normally there is a monthly Regal shop in my area. This month I saw no postings about it. Did anyone see any August postings? I shopped one location in May and another in June. I saw a post in July, but it was outside my rotation.

Have you perchance thought about checking the job board in other areas that Regal has locations?

The OP is not talking about Regal the MSC, I believe, but rather the MSC that does Regal Cinema. Correct me if I am mistaken.

I asked an employee at the MSC and was told Regal said that the shopper reports have been so consistently good that they don't feel the program was identifying any problems for them. The shopper reports seemed, to them, to be validating that they were doing a good job. With overall movie attendance down, they said they decided to focus their QA in a different way. I'm sad. This was one of my favorites for years.

Another direction for QA? May I suggest something? Perhaps the company could poll the last remaining movie-goers and find out what types of movies we are willing to pay for out of pocket. I stopped going to movies because I did not like the trends of many film themes, not because I did not like the theaters.

Yep, no more free movie dates with hubby. There are actually a couple other MCS's that have movie theater shops, but the $$ is so low and has restrictions, so it's not worth it to me.

A better question might be: Is there hope for movie theaters? Is there hope for malls? Is there hope for brick and mortar stores?

The results of the survey you suggest might be interesting. But I don't think, by QA, they mean surveying to bring more people into theaters. They mean QA to determine if the customers who do frequent theaters are being properly served.

Yes, I think there is plenty of hope for the movie theater biz. Life is evolving and things are changing. There's a wider distribution of goods and services now than ever before, and the way people spend their time and how they procure goods and services has changed. Onlline shopping is hurting the business at brick and mortar stores. Where people used to go to malls to buy their clothing and other items, many now buy from Amazon and other online shoppers. Rather than reflecting a distaste for the clothing and merchandise available at the malls, it shows that people are choosing to buy online, and many stores are closing as a result. Movie theaters used to be the only way to see a new-release movie. That's simply not the case any more. A newly released movie can be viewed online within days of its release, sometimes immediately on release. Movies are big business, even bigger than before, regardless of what individuals may think of the type of movies being made. People are choosing not to go to theaters, not because of the movies shown, but because they have other options and they are choosing those options.

I think movies will always be popular...they are building a huge Laemmlle (Independent film) theater in my town,
People kept asking for this, it is in the city, and we wanted good film here, not the typical family film. Netflex has different kinds of film, I for one will always pay for a good film on the big screen. Perhaps the reports aren't telling the whole story, and many shoppers aren't giving the full report...just sayin....just because they cut out our program, doesn't mean theaters are closing.

How strange. Nobody had asked me to sign up for the card in over two years and I don’t recall the last time I saw somebody walk in to do a theater check.

I'm with bgriffin on the not being able to pause to take a break, however, hubby and I like our SciFi and enjoy watching special effects on the (really) big screen. TV prices have come down so much & our vision is deteriorating, so every year or so we get a bigger and BIGGER tv. We'll have to bite the bullet for a $50 movie.

One of the locations I shopped never did theater checks and never offered the rewards card. I guess one location out of hundreds is insignificant.

This makes me even madder that my AMC A-lister shop was canceled.

At the 4 locations I shopped, they always did theater checks, offered extras at Concessions, wore their name tags, had a manager visible in the lobby area somewhere, offered the rewards card, did everything right. There was one thing that happened THREE times over the years. When I said I didn't have a reward card, the person at the concession counter scanned someone else's reward card and took the points. The first time, even though I said it in my report, the editor emailed to ask me to verify that the employee didn't ask for the points and I didn't know whose account the points were charged to. She told me employees got fired for doing that. The other two times I put it in the report and never heard any more.

The box office never wore name tags but the concession did. They also never had a ticket taker. The manager was hit or miss.

Personally speaking: I would rather just pay for my movie, buy the kids popcorn meal and enjoy the movie. I did many movie mystery shops but it was so much work I did not feel it was worth it. The company paid $5 for the fee and your ticket/concessions. I would rather just pay for it myself and relax.

Yeah, Regal killed their program. Now, if they really saying "Well, all of the reports were so good we don't need this", they're lying. I did a lot of these shops and at least 1/3 of the time the theater had some major problems, usually with cleanliness or speed of service.

Me, too. This was a super easy, fast report that reimbursed me two tickets and $15 of concessions. I got to see whatever movie I wanted so I watched a movie I would have seen anyway and spent about 5 minutes on the report. The requirements of the shop were so easy they were things I did anyway and noted. The only "work" I found was counting the number of patrons in the theater - and, depending on the time of day/night, that might be easy or difficult. Granted, it only paid $5, but there was actually only 5 minutes worth of work. I'm very sad to lose these shops.

Also Regal was bought out by the British company Cineworld.

Movie attendance has picked up substantially in recent months as per many media reports. With regard to theaters themselves, new ones are being constructed and in some cases, to replace vacant retail chains. Sears in Paramus, NJ closed and Regal is building upstairs with Stew Leonards grocery taking over the ground floor. Same situation elsewhere in NJ ( forgot the municipality name) with another closed Sears store and a vacant Macy's store in Minnesota re purposed with a theater upstairs and whatever downstairs. In fact, many mall owners are resorting to non retail tenants, such as theaters, go kart tracks, ice skating rinks, etc. in an effort to attract customers. Agree with the comments about the cost of movie going, but it is still cheaper than concerts or sports events. No matter how good these fancy big TV"s are, it is just not the same to sit home and watch a movie. Hope they can finally control the bed bug problem existing in two many of these NY area theaters!!!

PS--I too, miss those easy Regal shops. Hopefully some of these newer chains such as CMX from Mexico that have expanded into America, will be shopped. Forget the name of it, a theater chain from Korea is making strides here with market share. FYI: I Pic theaters is shopped...

I have a Roxy theater scheduled for tomorrow. I believe they are part of a chain. I enjoy the new reclining seating. Hopefully no one will be snoring!

I've only seen Ipic three times for one location in my area in the two years I've been with one particular msc yet there are multiple locations within distance. Are they shopped by multiple msc?
