Are the $20 luxury car shops being taken in your areas?

Just wondering.... I haven't seen these get bonused in months around here, but ultimately they apparently get taken at base price. This month there are a few in my region now nicely bonused. Unfortunately, none close enough to me to make it worthwhile. I'm wondering if the MSC is running out of shoppers who will do these for $20.

Are you seeing bonuses on these?

Birdy,

I completed one three weeks ago that took almost four hours for the shop, report and drive distance of 28 miles round trip; fortunately, the pay was $85. Unless you are either desperate for money or bored out of your mind, woe to anyone who would even consider $20. I have never had a car shop shorter than an hour on site and when adding in the report and drive time, it is at least 2 1/2 hours. That is why a motorcycle assignment in far more profitable. No test drive, 30 minutes tops in the showroom and no screen shots. I probably average one hour on those at $50.
In my area they are sending emails asking us to be their "Hero", their word, not mine. Want me to be a Hero? That will cost you a LOT more then $20.

I've done several car shops, but never one at $20. I did the shop in question for $40, and because I got a salesperson who had to tell me every single thing about the car, it wasn't worth it at that. The minimum I'll take a car shop at is $50 (maybe $40 if it's around the corner from me, and there's no test drive required). There are some other "luxury car shops" here going begging at $30. Nope. I'm not doing a luxury car shop for peanut-gallery wages. They want you to have a 2012 or newer car (although that gets waived sometimes) and be able to portray someone who can afford the brand being shopped. For $30 and a minimum of probably two to three hours of work? No, thanks. I'll go eat at Five Guys for a $15 fee before I'll do that.

Just because you saw the shop posted at $20, doesn’t mean that’s what the shopper got to do it. We won’t ever see what bonus was negotiated between the shopper and scheduler.
I think I am just going to reply every time that I would do it for $100 until they accept or deactivate me. LOL

I personally think these shops are worth $100.

The closest one to me is 100 miles away. I'd have to pick up several other shops in the same town to make it worthwhile to me.

Oh, wait a minute -- I'm going to that town to do 3 other shops. Geesh, let me think about this for a minute.

OK, thought about it.

NOPE.

Was $85 for this "luxury car" shop? I refused to do it for $20, and they would not bonus it. They claimed it was "fast." I replied that I knew it would take an hour.
One of the $20 ones is up to $30 now in my region and one to $40, but neither is even close enough to me for me to ask for an additional bonus. Or I would! LOL.

I have a feeling that these shops, at least in my area, have not been getting bonused, even privately, unless they are really, really desperate (like now). This MSC is getting a reputation for not giving bonuses because their shops supposedly are so popular and get taken quickly. I've been shopping for them for around three years (which isn't long, I know, but I have a 9 or 10 rating with them), and have asked for mileage allowances to get the ones out in the hinterlands done. There were two once, located about 20 miles apart, but a good 60 miles from me. It was end of month, neither had been taken, and I offered to do them both on one day, before the (supposed) deadline, and asked for a reasonable bonus for mileage. They didn't accept my offer, and I don't know if the shops ever got filled.

Nobody wants the $150 shops where I live. Really, I qualify, but I have no interest in driving that vehicle. Everyone that I know that fits the demographic has no interest in $150 anyway. Most people driving that car make 7 figures, so $150 is what they'd spend on a nice lunch or a shirt.

My husband did one of those. The dealer is five minutes from our house. You have to be male, and they would not budge on that requirement.

You don't have to be male where I live. You do have to drive one of the luxury cars, which I do. It's just a whole lot of work and acting for $150. For Maserati, I might consider it. I have no interest in driving a Ferrari. It would need to be about $500 for anyone who could actually afford one to be interested at all.
As a sample of one, that's not always accurate.

Do you mean that people who would spend upwards of $250,000 on a car would do a shop for $150? I probably know 20 people IRL that have that kind of money and none of them would consider doing this shop. That's just my experience.
I am a lawyer. I could buy one of those cars. I would do the shop for $150, that's why I said I am a sample of one, since I can only speak for myself. Since I am female, they would not let me do it though. I cannot speak for anyone else.

Not sure it's for the same brand, but there was one about 80 miles away from me that required a male shopper. It eventually ended up going up to $225, and they dropped the male-only requirement. I applied, but was too late. It was in an area where I could have found some other interesting stuff to do, so I'd have been OK with the drive.

Where I live, there are very few luxury-brand dealerships. A Porsche dealer about 25 miles away, which I've done, a BMW dealer, and one Acura dealer (but I wouldn't call Acura "luxury"winking smiley. No Ferrari, Maserati, Bugatti, not even Mercedes. You have to go 75 one way miles from here to start seeing upscale dealerships.

We are within five minutes of a Ferrari and a Lamborgini dealer. I have done BMW, Audi, and Cadillac. Yes, I did one of those $20 Cadillac shops as one of my first ever shops, but I would not do that again.

We were at Masarati last week with two cars, just for oil changes. Their customer service was excellent. I haven't seen Masarati or Mercedes shopped though.

Bob's reply: I am not positive, but it certainly sounds like the shop.
