I used to enjoy taking my family for an occasional night out at the movies, even though the closest theatre is a 50 mi RT. There was one company that I regularly performed the full theatre assignment for, but it became onerous. The report is detailed, LONG (hours to complete the report each time), many photos are required and photos must be sized and named a certain way. They reimbursed fairly well, but had required purchases and activities we weren't interested in, so the only way for our whole expense to fit within the amount was if two of us shared a meal. They never offer a report fee on top of the reimbursement and eventually, it just wasn't worth it to us to drive the distance, spend a minimum of four hours in the theater and stay up half the night trying to get the report in by the deadline.
I actually like doing theatre and trailer checks, but the pay is so low that it is hard to justify for me unless I was already in the area and just have time to kill. Typical pay for trailer check for one movie is $9 and I have to drive a minimum of an hour plus the 30-40 minutes in theatre and the 15 minutes or so entering the report.
When there are multiple movies to check it is slightly better at $14 plus $2.50 for each additional print, but still works out to be $4-$5 an hour for my time and I DON'T even get to see a movie (no ticket is included with trailer checks and we are expressly instructed NOT to stay after we get audience reactions in the first 5-10 minutes of the movie unless we buy our own, non-reimbursed ticket).
