An IMSC member is arranging for a group of 40 people to experience the Las Vegas High Roller on Monday evening, November 12th. It has awesome reviews. If you're interested please let me know and I'll put you in touch with the organizer. We are being offered the discounted price of $30.00 each. But, we must have 40 folks to book the cabin.

If you don't get enough people, there is always a Groupon for $30 and that includes a completely free open bar for 30 minutes too.

I am trying to see if I can make it to this one. I heard it is the last one in Vegas for awhile.

Groupon is offering the day pass at that price. They're offering the evening pass at $47. So if you go with the mystery shop group you save $$. The group is not doing the bar cabin. How many drinks can you possibly get served and drink in 30 minutes. We are hitting the town for drinks afterwards though (those that wish)!

No way I could do a drink or more every ten minutes and I would be surprised the server would bring them that fast. Wow

I’ll be in Vegas a different weekend.

If I recall correctly, the High Roller is the largest Ferris wheel in the world. It certainly got rave reviews from the IMSC conference-goers who took it the last time. Glad to see that someone stepped up to organize a group outing this time. It is quite close to the conference hotel, practically outside my room window the last time I was there.

I will take a pass on this fall's conference since I was at the spring 2018 one in Atlanta.

The draw of LV is the price of airfares and hotel. I also have no interest in the place, but the presence of so many interesting MSers is inviting.

I keep going back and forth on doing this one, I'm just super excited to be going to my first conference!! Next year I believe it is in Phoenix so at least I won't have to spring for a hotel LOL

So much networking with schedulers, editors, shoppers and MSC owners takes place before and after the hours of the meetings that you may as well stay in the conference hotel even if it is in your home area!

I am going to ask this, and please don't be insulted, but what is the average age would you say of people that go to these events? I ask because I hear that many people take on shopping after they retire from there normal job and I wonder if it skews the age group. Anyway, just curious, I would not be flying to Vegas for one of these, but I know they do east coast ones as well.

Over 50 if you average, might be 55-60.

I'm in my mid-40's. I would guess I was below the median age at all 3 or 4 conferences I've been to.

It may also be because folks who do MS because of family care responsibilities, personal health issues, being in college, and in similar situations where overnight travel (or travel funds) may be difficult or impossible, are under-represented at conferences. One of the most active shoppers I have ever met has five children at home and a spouse who works full time, and she has to plan about 10 months in advance in order to attend a conference. (Which she has done once and will do again this year.)

Building on walesmaven above: Are there any alternatives for such people? Who remembers the Career Path, Skillpath, and other one- or two-day regional, themed events? Some of their topics might have helped some mystery shoppers: project management, bookkeeping or accounting, networking, social media, technology, communications skills, etc. Could any themes more specifically for mystery shoppers be supplied in smaller units, regionally, etc.?
