No fries or milkshake available when required

I just did a shop where there were no fries or milkshakes available and I could not reschedule. I did the timing and taste test anyway with just a burger and drink. What, in your experience, are the chances they flat out reject the shop?

Did you make notes of it in your report and also email the helpdesk notifying them of the problem? I have never run into that issue. Let us know what happens.
Yes and thank you for replying. I did note it in every comment dialogue box that I could. There was no reschedule option on my assignment page. I emailed help desk and asked them to contact me before invalidating it. Hopefully they let me redo it at least. It’s not my fault the restaurant did not have the items.
That's odd that they did not have any fries or milshakes. I wonder why they ran out. Yes please keep us updated.

You should not be penalized because the restaurant did not physically have the required fries and shake for you to order. You documented the outages and should be payed for your efforts.

"We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl -- year after year..."
Did they offer any reason why shake & fries weren't available? Walk-in died, late delivery, etc? (DIdn't pay the tab in 3 months and they won't carry anymore...)
I agree with the above thought/question on documentation. As long as you reported what happened, I don't see an issue with the job you completed. But that's just me.

Now, I may be assuming here, but someone at 5 Guys is SO fired.
Not a shop but, today I went to Sephora, they open at 11:00 Sundays...no one opened, the store was dark.
There were about 10 customers waiting with me, they finally opened 11:15, not acceptable, wish it were a shop.

Live consciously....
There is a burger shop that we have in our local mall. I went in on Labor Day after lunch. They had no fries and no chips. I just left.

The only reason I could think of is that it was Labor Day weekend and they were busier then expected and they did not order enough product.

Irene- Did they give a reason why they open late?

May be they were busier expected?

If there is another Five Guys in your area could they have borrowed from till the truck came?

What time was your shop?

I once did this shop and the fryer was broke down. The guy said he was sorry but were no fries because of the fryer. {I was sweating bullets and asked him a silly question} I asked him how long did he think it would be for it work again? He said about 10 minutes. He said he knew what the problem was. I said I reallllly wanted the french fries as I loved them. They messed with the fryer and got it working. It took a little time to heat the oil. I finally got my order and had to explain the fryer was down briefly and they paid me for the shop. smiling smiley
It was a late night shop, 29 minutes before closing. There is another location less than a mile away but they probably encountered the problem late enough that they thought they would just deal with it the next day. I did not ask the reason but I did ask if they were any other options. The guy offered me a grilled cheese as a side. Then he asked if I wanted fries or a drink. smiling smiley They were not going to open the fry station before they closed because the manager was cleaning it. As for the milkshakes, total mystery there. So far I’m still waiting for a reply from help desk, and for my shop to appear in the Assignment Status list.
And you checked the box that indicated they were "cleaning the fryer" (something like that) or "other" and explained?

Mhm.

You are good to go. And a crew member and/or MOD is not going to be a happy camper.

Well there's your answer (and very likely why they do those shops). Probably already turned the fryer and milkshake machines off because they wanted to leave ASAP after closing.

I’ve shopped this location at that time before and have never been told no fries. There must have a been a problem.
I would guess the problem was the manager on duty had something to do that night.

Nothing has appeared in the assignment page for days. Mine won't load so I can't see the status of my shop from last Sunday.

I am going to guess you will be okay, but will you please keep us posted of the outcome?
I did a Jamba Juice shop recently where they only had smoothies and packaged goods. They told me they were out of all baked goods and oatmeal. I arrived 40 minutes before closing and the cashier told me they were about to close and weren't making any more.
Hi everyone I still don’t know if the shop will be approved but I received a reply from HelpDesk today. In it I was told that HD also noted on the assignment file that I contacted them because milkshakes and fries weren’t available and it seems like the shop should be valid because that’s what I reported. HD did say that the shop was still pending review but it sounds hopeful. I’ll let you all know anything else that happens. Thanks for your support and feedback! smiling smiley

In my experiences like this, I think it would be best to abort the shop all together and perhaps reschedule if possible. You are putting yourself at the mercy of guidelines that don't have all the what if scenarios and the editor will just make a judgment call and not use your shop, you end up paying for a burger and feel crappy. They have all the leverage and might say something dumb like shop it on a different day if they don't have fries and drinks. Fries are an essential part of 5 guyz shops and it is likely to be rejected if fries are missing. In a similar situation I've had cases where a shop was rejected because a grocer told me to use the self checkout lane because no cashiers are available, then my shop was rejected because I used self checkout. The shopper rarely has any leverage. Abort abort!
jlovesny Not necessarily a viable option. You also run the risk of them counting it as a flake.
