How much does the report ruin your shopping experience?

For shops guys enjoy, how much does having to do a report ruin some of that experience for you? Say you went to a fabulous restaurant (TXRH I'm talking about you! mmmmmm!) and really had a great time. Then...you get home. And it's report time.

I have this conflict where I feel the desire to relax more after a fun shop. And I get frustrated that a report is waiting for me to do. It's like a bitter sweet feeling. It feels unnatural at times. Like my brain and body are relaxed and want to take a post meal nap or watch some television. But there's that ticking report due time in the back of my mind.

I sometimes feel resentment lol.

Being as I think you were referring to all shoppers when you wrote "guys" and I don't think you violated any PC rules, I will give you my answer. And in any case I am a guy.

I enjoy the shops I do and dislike the drudgery of doing the necessary reports. But it is part of the job and a requirement. If/when the drudgery overtakes the enjoyment I will find another source of income.

I like writing and I like writing detailed reviews, so the reports are fine.

I am not a guy though.

My husband would never do this. It would be the last thing he would want to do.

Usually that's Jackie, unless she is a manly kind of woman. But it's certainly possible.

The report, for me, is significant. If a grueling report takes the enjoyment out of a shop experience, I opt not to do the shop.

I enjoy the reports..I know I'm weird that way..

To help it not take away the fun of shopping I try not to stack too many of the long reports in one day..just as an example I have 10 shops I'm doing between Thursday to Saturday..

Both Thursday and Saturday all are shops..super easy with easy reports

Friday will be a bit more tough..have 2 lengthy shops and reports

I scheduled them that way on purpose so I can enjoy my weekend..I got an unexpected day off this week and Friday was a scheduled day off from my primary job so yay 4 day weekend

Shopping Idaho and Oregon/Idaho border region.

I don’t mind reports when the report is well structured and organized and doesn’t ask stupid questions repeatedly. I’m looking at you, TrueGuest.

I find the fact that y'all are perking up to a person saying "guys" pretty hilarious. I would venture to guess 80% of the posts to this forum just assume we are all women. LOL

As a guy, I do not have any problem doing the report after, and actually for me, the quicker after I can get it done the more I feel I have completed my obligation that allowed me the opportunity to eat that great meal for free, stay at that hotel, etc, etc.

Funny you should ask. When I began mystery shopping, I thought doing the reports would be enjoyable work to do at home. I expected to find the actual shopping drudgery as I never enjoyed shopping.
Instead, I find reports drudgery, and enjoy the shop more. Sometimes I stop at the library or somewhere to do the reports so I don't have to work at home.

One option for avoiding involved, lengthy, or difficult reports is to do app shops. You would have to decide for yourself if this quick & easy reporting method is right for you. For some people, it is a wonderful way to accomplish many assignments sequentially because (as long as connectivity is good) the report is finished when the shopper leaves the location or very shortly thereafter. There is no lag time or down time for taking notes or rummaging around in the memory for missed or forgotten details. Would it be good to try a few app shops and mix it up with your other shops that have typical reports? .

I don't particularly enjoy writing reports, but I can do them fairly quickly with my system of note taking and photos during my shop. The first one with a new MSC or client is always tricky and will take a little longer gathering thoughts, but when on a cadence of once a month or once every 3 months, it's expected.

For a fine dining establishment, I'll opt for the earlier reservations so when I get home, I can set some time to write the report.

Well, I'm not a man, but I certainly have something to say. I don't want to put that much time into a shop report. I've learned the hard way to not take anymore casino, resort, amusement park, or FINE dining shops. 4+ hours of procrastinating, whining, and stamping my feet to push out a report is too much - especially after a long day - sometimes involving alcohol. A real buzz kill.

I don't like a dinner shop report that needs to be submitted by midnight the day of the shop. I might not get home from dinner until late.

Yes, it is and means "you all." Also, I wrote it fast and worded it weird too...oh well.

While I sometimes hate the drudgery of writing the reports, I can't stomach going to a restaurant on my own dime, only to end up paying attention to all of the same things I would on a shop.

I've been doing this for so long that taking notes and photos just seems like part of dining out....

I was so poor that I had a pre-paid simple phone plan, Shop-et-al. No data.

If there are enough of these types of shops worth it, I'd look into it. What are various app shops you guys perform?

When dining with a friend, yes, I want to continue the fun and resent having to do a report, but think about having saved the money, then I put my big girl pants on and do the job. I usually find a friend that will drive and pay the tip and doesn't complain, so, I get something out of it. When I have to have a drink, I really would rather not do a report...but, I want to get paid, so it's never an issue.

For dinner w/ bar I try to do the drink before dinner and not consume the entire thing. Usually the cheapest drink at the bar. I’ll order something I’ll actually enjoy at the table.

Fine dining is my thing. Love it. I have started to avoid the due in 12 hour ones as that was a real evening spoiler and I would be up in the wee hours of the morning. I still think of what I have in store for me the next day but it's not all that bad. For other shops I try and get them done ASAP just to have peace of mind. My husband as a MS? LMAO!!!!
