I'm a terrible person to answer that. I am a scientist. The first thing that came to mind was a mercury switch for an explosive device. But yes, thermometers. That's going to suck when we send in our thermometers to have them certified again.@ArkLaMissshopping wrote:
Dang! I leave for half of a day and come back, and we're talking about blowing up pet shelters and the bomber is a mystery shopper! OMG! How funny! lol
Mercury, SoCalMama? I wonder what all has mercury in it? So, tuna can't be shipped (lol). Thermometers.

Whaaaat, he didn't want to go through the line to the counter and have someone ask him, "Is there anything fragile, liquid, perishable, or potentially hazardous such as lithium batteries or perfume?"
Hey, do they need to change that to..."such as lithium batteries, perfumes, or bombs?"

I just found a very easy site to see zones: [www.easypost.com]. Just put in the to and from zip code and it tells you the zone. Come to find out cease is in my zone. Even though the postal service site said zone 1.
Pro Evals-Audits - I guess I freaked them out by sending them 1-2 pounds of items. LOL, I am sure they don't normally get a 1 pound bag of rice to feed all them many people. If I ever send to another pantry, which I doubt I ever will, I will put my phone number under my address. Call me directly. No need for cops to get involved.

A one-pound package is what a small pipe bomb would weigh. That is probably why they had the cops contact you.

I would suggest do not send any packages to foodbanks. Just got off the phone with postal inspector.

I am in Southern CA (shocker, I'm sure).
Shocker is bad word around here. I am not ready for an earthquake.

Actually, they will be adding Mercury to the list. I am not sure when it will change, but I was told that at the Post Office last month.

I have a shipping buddy in Arizona for the Hazmat and they seem to let all kinds of stuff through. I keep getting boxes of rocks. Sometimes one, two, or more. maybe that was how the Grand Canyon was formed it was shipped somewhere else. Oh and I'm in 74011 if you need a shipping buddy. Just send rocks though I would not want a porch pirate to get anything worthwhile.

At my hazmat shop today the post mistress thanked me for being honest after I told her yes to her question. The way she said it sounded like I was the first person ever to say I had something hazardous in my package. She was so thankful. I think it would be pretty easy for those pipe bombs to slip thru...we have all had a large number of hazmats go thru okay. I once had a clerk tell me it was okay to take the package even though I said it had hazmat in it. The clerk said that since they knew about the hazmat material they would just put my package in a different section of the plane.

I wonder what will happen if you knew you were mailing something hazardous and answer no. Do bombers really answer yes?
