Hostility from MSC Re. Lost Check

Recently, I inquired about a payment to a MSC on a shop I did six months ago, and we found that my profile's address was incorrect. The Company stated that they would not reissue the check, though, because the cost of researching a $15 check would be greater than the research fee they impose on shoppers, so no replacement check will be given to me. This is a rare situation among MSC's, as most are happy to replace uncashed checks. I told the MSC that I wanted the check number and the check date, and that way, I could go to the state treasurer to inquire about this when the check legally becomes unclaimed property (and thus must be transferred to the state). The rep's reply was that rather than provide me with this information, she will pay her own money (capitalizing "OWN" in her message). I am taken aback by her reply, and just wanted to get some check information. I need advice; I feel hurt by the company's fee for researching lost checks, and her hostility towards my request for simple payment information.

I would hope that someone that received the check at the incorrect address would send it back to the sender or at least do an internet search and find the company and call them. Have you tried searching to see if you can find a contact info on the wrong address to contact them about the check? You might get lucky and they are in the (gulp) phone book. I am waiting for a check as well. I was emailed stating it was mailed two weeks ago. I am afraid I will have to contact them and go through this as well and I don't like it. This will be the first check lost. My address is correct.

I hope everything works out for you! Hostility isn't a way to respond, that's for sure.

Frankly, for the amount of time it would take to repair it, I'd have given you the $15 out of my own pocket, too. Someone is paying for the time to fix this. If the incorrect address was their fault, they ought to make it whole. For $15, though, it's probably easier for her to send it to you. Don't feel hurt; she'd probably just be out more than $15 taking the time to research it.

GabbyG, I would be miffed that someone else would determine my money is not worth their effort. Sure, $15 is not a huge amount, so how about they pay you an extra $15 on the next report and send it to the correct address? It costs nothing to be polite and helpful and chaps my hide when I hear of ppl being brushed off like that. Don't mess with other ppl's money.
I sympathize with you that you have not gotten paid, but I kind of understand the MSC response. Meaning no disrespect to you, it sounds like the incorrect address in your profile was something that you caused - a typo, maybe? Waiting SIX MONTHS to tell the MSC there is a problem compounds the problem because that's a really long time ago. This is a PITA for the MSC and the research, especially having to go back six months, is massive so I understand the MSC employee's frustration. What you perceive as hostility may just be her annoyance and frustration. If I were the employee, I would probably think about just paying the $15 to you out of my own pocket and forgetting about it. If I were you, I would probably have just written it off when I realized my address was wrong and I waited six months and the MSC was negative about replacing the check. You are making a really big deal over $15 that it took you six months to realize you hadn't gotten.
Why does everyone think this would be such a PITA to "research." Ever hear of a computer?

If that is the company I think it is, you had better let it ride. They have some amazing shops. No need to burn bridges.
