I now have 6 or 7 digital cameras that I purchased used at local resale shops (Salvation Army, Goodwill, etc). None of them were more than $10. Some of them needed battery chargers or additional batteries or a chip. That wasn't a big problem. Amazon had the needed extras. Currently, I've been using a Sony CyberShot DSC-TS. I use it almost exclusively because its on/off switch is a simple sliding mechanism. Its as flat as a cigarette pack, has a battery life of almost 2 hours and can fit in a bra or shirt pocket.
Of course, I have my backups - 2 Canon Elphs and 2 addition Sonys..
On the road, I have a cable that I plug into the Sony and connect to my laptop via USB to download the pix.
Best advice: as the weather gets colder, have an additional charged battery and always, always keep your camera warm (keep it next to your body heat).
