Geoverify failed me

On site at the shop location I pulled up the Geoverify app and hit the green button for a new code, and immediately gave it a name. I then went inside the store. I came home, input the code into the shop form, and it says I am 6 miles away. I examined the map, and it pinpoints on a location over half the way back home. What the hell is going on? Can you trust this software?

Had the same issue last week. My GPS was on and the rest of my shops that day were fine but it said 12 miles away even though the pinpoint was accurate.
@Aquiest

Are you in a remote area when using it? That could be contributing, due to poor service.

Try these:

Clear cache from the app

Do a soft reset on your phone (airplane mode on then off)

Update the PRL and profile on your phone just before using the app

Wait for verification before completing the shop

If Geoverify isn't working, take a screenshot of the issue to have as backup

Plot yourself on Google maps and screenshot your location to have as backup

Yes, did all this. thankfully most of my shops don't require go verify it's a backup for me. I do have other GPS software that does a better job for pinpointing location. I did uninstall and reinstall the app and did all the troubleshooting steps above.

The app at best is finicky.
Thanks for the tips. But yes, I'm in a well populated area (4 miles from an NFL and MLB stadium). Weird thing is it worked fine on the shop I did a half mile down the road afterward.
I was sitting right in front of a shop I was doing, GeoVerified, and found out it had me 7 miles from the location. I had to look at my picture details just to be sure I was in the correct place.

I've learned to email myself the code as soon as it populates. I get scare sometimes using it.

Shopping Arkansas, Louisiana, & Mississippi.
I always uninstall the app when I am done with it due to location tracking. Today at a shop I could not get it to download whatsoever, fortunately not required only requested. Walked in the door at home with my wifi later, and Geo-verify goes up and running. lol

It's likely there's a setting in your phone to wait to download anything over XYZ amount until you're connected to WiFi - the idea is to save data when it's not crucial. Of course that's only helpful if it's simple to change the setting, which Google could help with.
Does anyone know if geoverify works off the cell towers along with WiFi or if it works off the GPS satellites?

I know my Garmin GPS would lose signal when driving in downtown Dallas because the tall buildings block it.
GeoVerify uses GPS. The problem is that some locations use addresses that are not interpreted correctly. I always make sure that I am at the proper location on the map. There is one computer store where i am always 5 miles away. The town shares street names and zip codes with other towns and I think that GeoVerify input the wrong location for the store. Once is a great while (less than 1%), the map shows me somewhere else. I turn off the phone and try again. I don't know what causes that, but I blame the phone for getting confused. I generally try to restart my phone every few days otherwise it seems to accumlate glitches.

Shopping Southeast Pennsylvania, Delaware above the canal, and South Jersey since 2008
While GeoVerify uses GPS, it's what is referred to as Assisted GPS [en.wikipedia.org]

The phone uses cell tower information to more quickly pinpoint its location. In areas of low cellular reception, it will take longer for the phone to pinpoint your location down to a similar level of accuracy than in an area with perfect reception. If the phone has to rely on GPS alone (in an area of low or no cell reception), it's plausible that the GPS location provided from the phone to the app may have a very large margin of error (sometimes in the order of miles) until the phone's GPS has more time to pinpoint its exact location.
As my CRP does not have Geo-verify capabilities, the last MSC, with that requirement, decided that since no one else would accept the job, they would waive their insistence.

On another note: Ten years ago, I was paid $5 to take an optional picture of an eatery's sign. Last week, I received an offer to visit an ice cream store, a definite weakness of mine, that required a non-reimbursed purchase and FIVE pics; the fee was $10. The moral of the situation is...................
I have had GeoVerify show that I am not at the correct address a few times. I left the GeoVerify code in the report and never heard anything from the MSC.
Geoverify was optional for the shop I did but after I submitted and got the faulty message, it was uneditable.
It has been consistently showing where I was about 15-30 minutes ago, for at least the last month for me. I have tried everything suggested and cannot get it to re-geo-locate itself on demand. But picture geo-locations seem to be fine.
Do you use any kind of mapping sofware as in google maps, mapquest, or apple maps if using an apple product. If so they still track you unless you put your phone in a shielded bag with the battery out of it. Quick hand me another roll of tin foil!
