Just something I do for my own amusement that I thought you all would enjoy

Lets preface this to say that I don't do this on any of the companies I actually mystery shop.

So before I was mystery shopping, I always carried a notebook and pen with me or have those items within arms length. I'm not a phone person and I get bored very easy; so its nice to have those items with me to doodle, or write myself reminders of what I need to do, while running around doing chores or errands and you have the inevitable wait in some stores.

What I noticed after mystery shopping awhile is when I have a notebook and pen with me on my non mystery shops, I always get treated much better..Just something I noticed and amuses me so much. Sometimes I even try to sneakily look up and quickly look away when a sales associate looks up and I write furiously in my notebook..It just makes me laugh so much..not sure why I find it so amusing!!!

@dawnhu, I'm with you there. Sometimes it's just fun to mess with people. While probably not very nice from the salesperson's point of view, you are at least throwing them off the scent of the real mystery shopper. So I suppose you are doing your fellow shoppers a favor in that regard!

I’ve done that! I’ve even done it when checking into hotels to increase my chances of an upgrade. I’m a terrible person. winking smiley

LOL...Now I know how managers and employees end up questioning a report based on mistaken identity. They think they have zero'd in on the shopper due to the overt notebook and note taking, meanwhile, the real shopper is covert. When the report comes out and doesn't match what the location "thinks" happened, they question the report and real shopper.

Would be very funny unless I end up being on the questioned/rejected report end of things....LOL!

I always carry a pen with me at all times.
Wanna be treated like royalty on all dining visits? Ask for a receipt. The employees know those MS them need receipts so when you ask for a receipt at a place where most don't they will wonder if you are MS them and treat you great just in case you are. You aren't but they don't know that.
I was once at the Apple store, and loaded the forum on one of the test computers. Suddenly, the person I was with was getting *much* better customer service. grinning smiley
@JacobJ I always get such nice treatment at the Genius Bar, I can't imagine even better treatment...almost gushing.. Do you go to an Apple store where they're not so nice?
@Monk-N-Nut -- It was at a very busy Apple store in downtown Toronto. They're generally good, but often slow, in my experience.
