Auto trade in shops....have to love this

I had two auto shops today, both requiring a trade in quote. Dealer A says one price. Dealer B's is 10K less. The shops were back to back and I didn't wreck my car in between them. Unbelieveable.

Lol, it's the 20 or so miles diff on the odometer winking smiley

Trade in values are all over the place. I always negotiate the purchase price before discusing trades as dealers use it to minipulate the sale price.
As other have said, the value of your trade has everything to do with the purchase price you got. If you go to a dealer that wants to show off a low price, they will give you a great deal on the car, and then screw you on trade in value. If you go somewhere that offers great trade in values, they will not give you a great deal on the car you went in for. It's a big game to them...And also why I stopped trading in car to dealers over 20 years ago.

Thank you all soooooooo much for your responses!!!!!!!!! This will help me when I *actually* trade in my vehicle and not be on a shop! Oh yeah, that's right. I haven't traded any of my 15 or so outright owned vehicles in my decades of car ownership because I learned from my car salesman uncle what the real deal is.

There needs to be a smarta$$ font.
I have always sold my cars myselt instead of trading them in. Always well above the amount offered for a trade.
