Digital Check Payment

I received an email with a digital check from Service with Style. I have never been paid this way. Is this authentic? It is the correct amount that I am owed but I don’t think I received any notification about this payment change. I looked on their website and did not see any information about a payment change. Thanks for your help.

If it’s for the corrrct amount, it is very likely legit (unless that exact amount is a very round number like $100). Are there any instructions in the email?

Seriously, nobody cares that you're offended.
I only did one shop for them so it was for $20. The instructions said: click here to deposit or print the check. I haven’t done any shops for this company in a while. They used to send checks and the only info listed on their site still states they send checks.

Can you elaborate on this? I’m not sure what you mean? Is it a scam?

I was supposed to receive a validation code sent to my cell phone. The validation code never came. So I cannot do online deposit.
Were you able to print the check? I emailed the MSC but have not heard back. I was hoping someone on here would know.
I got an email from the MSC and found out it’s legitimate. I printed the check and already deposited it into my bank using mobile deposit.

i'm going to try with this method.
I received a "heads up" email a few days before on this.

After reading the fine print/terms of service, I chose to go the paper check route. It gives them carte blance to access "any account...with ANY financial institution."

"you agree that Checkbook may debit any account maintained by you with Checkbook, including but not limited to, the Bank Account, or that Checkbook may set off against any amount it owes you or any account maintained by you with any financial institution in order to obtain payment of your obligations under this Agreement"
Here's the email from the MSC:

We would like to extend our appreciation to all of our shoppers that have helped make 2018 a tremendous year for (MSC name removed)!

Thanks to recent breakthroughs in online banking, we have partnered with a company called Checkbook that will make our payment system as convenient as ever! Now, when (MSC NAME REMOVED) processes payroll for our shoppers, each shopper will automatically receive an e-mail from Checkbook.io with a link to their digital check. With the click of just a few buttons, shoppers will be able to link their checking account or savings account and deposit their funds directly into their account.

Here is a brief video that explains the process for the recipient:

If you are not interested in linking your bank account, you can take advantage of Checkbook’s Print From Home option. This option will allow shoppers to print a physical check and take the check to their local ATM or bank to make their deposit. The Print From Home option should also work for individuals that make deposits by submitting digital images of checks through their bank’s app.

For shoppers that prefer to have a traditional watermarked check, they will be able to submit their address and have Checkbook mail a physical check directly to them. Please note that the physical check option has a turnaround of approximately three to eight weeks, so we highly recommend taking advantage of one of Checkbook’s efficient digital options.

You should be receiving an e-mail within the next day or two with a subject line of “MSC NAME REMOVED) has sent a digital check”. Please be sure to select the payment option that works best for you. If you are not finding the e-mail in your inbox, please be sure to check your spam folder. The e-mail will be sent from support@checkbook.io.

To learn more about Checkbook, please feel free to visit their website at [www.checkbook.io].

Checkbook has an interactive query system and answers to Frequently Asked Questions at [intercom.help].

We are looking forward to expediting our service thanks to this amazing, new technology!

Happy Holidays!

I took the direct deposit route thinking it would get into my account the fastest. Nope! Next time I'm going to print the check and mobile deposit.

I am not willing to give access to my bank account to them. I received the email on the 20th, I asked for a paper check and had it in on the 24th.
Kathy, it sounds like it would be the same as setting up direct deposit. You give the company your account number and routing number.

I checked some of my other shopper agreements--None of the others have the words "any account" "with any financial institution" They referred to the single account (and single bank) that I provide bank routing information for. This wording gives them permission for a totally different account at a different bank.
That sounds like a legal catch all. How would they get information on other accounts unless provided by the shopper?

I would also stick to paper checks. That could open a big can of worms.
