99 cents only shop

I have done this shop in the past, and I recall that I wanted to quit in the middle of filling out the form. It was incredibly tedious.

Has it changed at all or is it still horrible? I realize that the company is the same, but I think that their website has changed, so maybe the form is more reasonable now? These are never bonused in my area. There are a couple locations near where I work and commute daily.

TIA

Were there 99 questions?

This chain still is called 99 cents Only but they have certainly departed from the only part. So many items are now more than 99.9 cents and for me the fun of shopping there is gone. I now prefer the Dollar Tree store.

I haven't done one for months, and certainly not since the website revamp. My guess is the questions didn't change, since I have done other shops since the revamp and the questions for those clients didn't change.

When I lived in LA, I used to shop there frequently. They were adamant about every item in the store being $0.99! I hate that they discarded that philosophy.

They got rid of some comments where you just had to repeat the question. I just did 2 and have 1 more coming up.

That's what made me crazy. It was a whole bunch of busy work for no purpose. I think that it took me 45 minutes to do the last report (at least a year ago). I might try again and see if it's less painful.
Two or three years ago they advertised they were going back to their roots and from then on were only going to carry 99 cent items except for milk and eggs which many customers requested. That lasted for it seems like only a few months and now they have half the store above 99. So sad. But the 99 stuff is still a great bargain.
I remember five-and-dime stores.

You youngsters (anyone who's never used a rotary phone or a payphone) will not know what a five-and-dime was.

Woolworth's is the one I recall most fondly, lunch counter and all.
We called it "The 5 and 10." There was Woolworth's and McCrory's and W.T.Grant might have fit that bill as well. God, I'm old!

Oh, heavens. I remember when J C Penney's was THE place to go for everything. Get your hair permed/colored/whatever, have linen tablecloth "luncheon" with the girls, or tea on the mezzanine..

Now retail space is all about how many times a store can turn over inventory in each square foot....I don't know anyplace that offers afternoon tea any more.

Progress isn't always forward......
I love the 99 cent store, I have never been in a dollar tree when there was more than one line open at a time no matter how many customers they had.

I just came back from .99, I go a few times a week, and if you catch them when the truck comes, great buys.99% are .99 except as SandyF says, Almond milk, bacon, eggs. I bought olives, Oprah;s cauliflower pizza, lactose free ice cream, creme cheese, Western bagels, blackberries, Stevia, and all my foil, paper towels, etc. Spent 15.00 and got tons of stuff needed and wanted. Everyone says this one is great, I agree. I didn't know they were ever shopped.

I remember in my downtown, MANY moons ago, right next to each other were three "5 & 10" stores: Kresge's, Woolworth's and JJ Newberry's. I had many an ice cream sundae in those places!! And then across the street from the main library was a drug store/pharmacy, with the counter and stools. I enjoyed many a fresh-made raspberry lime rickey there!! Aahhh, good memories!

Yes, it still is great. Gotta find out when the bargains arrive. My local store is tiny so any bargains go fast.
But some fruits and veggies are now by the pound or over .99 as are many other items in the store. My friend told me they had doormats and I was excited as mine wore out...but they were 9.99. I can have my choice in another store for that price. I never did this job but reading about it above it sounds like the job is not worth it.
And there was also these Five & Dime stores,Ben Franklin, TG&Y, Cornet, Kress(Which was the SS Kresge who owned Kmart), JJ Newberry's.

I only buy the .99 stuff, I think batteries are a great buy and shampoo's...many things to buy for .99. I buy name stuff and if it's over .99, I just don't buy it.

Yeah, this went sideways fast.

I bought tomatillos from the 99 cents only store. I ended up with a serious fruit fly infestation. That was the last time I bought fresh food from there.

I did one a few weeks ago and the report was pretty easy. The most difficult part for me, was getting the required photo of the produce area. There were people *everywhere* no matter what angle I was trying to get at, and I was constantly in someone's way LOL. It was my first time MSing the 99c store (although I frequently shop there as non-MS). There are 4 near me, so I look forward to doing more in the future. Maybe on a less-busy day.
