Is the new ownership going to keep them open as malls or use the land for other purposes?

They will be high end malls, there spending millions to redevelop ours (which needs it).,,getting rid of the stores that don't do a productive business, probably MSing will stay the same, not sure. I do know their closing our Wells Fargo which they recently remodleded, and our older Starbucks is taking that space and building a newer one.

There is one about a mile from my house. It is getting renovated and greatly reduced in size. Seattle is getting an NHL team and the area where that mall current stands is likely going to become the team's practice facility and location of the team headquarters. Macy's is moving out. Nordstrom's is staying..... I'm not sure how much of what we are seeing here is related to the overall sale... . I rarely mystery shop in malls, so I have not thought about it from that perspective at all.

I did not know about this. But....about 6 weeks ago I saw a story about one of our Wesftield malls planning to turn a former high-end anchor store into apartments and offices and to provide an integrated public transit link right next door.

I'm a huge retail shopper, so upscaling works for me, I like higher end (pays more) and is up my alley......just did Cartier and making 50 bucks for 20 minutes is good. Here we have no upscale retail and our Macy's is the bottom of the barrel, it may close. Better shops brings jobs to me. I gather they will close malls that aren't producing, someone's got money, I heard they're a London company, not 100% sure of my source. I hope they don't have all valet parking.

I've never been much for spending money on high end luxury items... My extra money has always gone to supporting my kids in their activities and the occasional family vacation... I'll do high end retail shops when the pay is right, but I always feel a bit awkward. I did a shop for $10,000 a couple of months ago - $75 for a total of 40 minutes (visit + report) that was on my way home from work. It was fine and went well, but I did feel strange doing it... I feel the same way at Lamborghini, Porsche, etc. car dealerships - but the cars are cool enough and the pay high enough that I get over it quickly.

The Westfield sale was at the end of 2017. There has been a year for the effects to begin to be felt.
Thanks for the update as to the sequence of events.

Yes, thanks for letting us know. I sure hope the new company will distinguish the names of the mall a little better. We have four or more Westfield Malls around here and they are all called Westfield...very confusing. I am sure in the small print somewhere they are separately distinguished but on ads and things they just are all called Westfield...so hopefully Fox Hills will go back to the name Fox Hills and Century City will be that etc. The individual shops will not be affected if those stores stay in the same place. I just saw a shop for the mall itself at one of them last week so for now they are still doing the overall mall shops. For those malls that close or remodel it will give you a chance for new shops at what ever goes in there. Might be some interesting new jobs eventually.
I still see the Westfield mystery shops all the time. Just got an email scheduling for shops next month. The newly renovated Westfields in California are all really nice and if anything, they increased the amount of dining and retail shops (and increased MS opportunities). San Diego's Westfield UTC just finished their first phase of renovations/expansion and there has been a significant increase in shops available there now (especially fine dining restaurants and luxury stores). It looks like the new company is looking to close underperforming locations and do significant renovations/expansions at their more profitable locations.
I worked for Westfield at the Airport. I'm not sure if they are the same, but they stopped the shops last year.
They were under Customer Service Experts.
Yes, they sold last year, and have started remodeling and getting rid of old un-productive malls by building Condo's and office buildings...found out through friend. I actually did an MSing job for Westfield a couple years ago evaluating security, Valet parking and such, no stores for them.

The westfield shops near me were pulled. I was on the phone with a scheduler a few weeks ago trying to schedule one and he told me that the jobs were in the process of being removed from the board...
I didn't ask why, and I dont know if that was just the one location I wanted, or that entire project.
The issue I have with the newer malls near where I live is that they all, Westfileld included, stuff the malls big and small with restaurants, restaurants and more restaurants. This leads to intense parking issues in all their restaurant heavy malls. I cannot imagine how so many restaurants can have so many diners night after night. And a lot of them are quite pricey too.
I think a lot of young people grew up in homes where they did not learn to cook. Millennials spend a lot more eating out (source:foodnetwork.com)

The malls here in the Northeast are also opening restaurants and more restaurants. Simon owns some of the malls here.
