One time problem or something more serious?

I was doing an audio recorded apartment shop for Ellis today. I routinely record all shops on my iPhone (hundreds at this point) without an issue. However, today the recording stopped after 10 minutes! When I returned to my car and checked the phone I was met with a blank screen for several minutes until things returned to normal. The only reason I can think of might be the frigid outside air temperatures (approximately 25 degrees, with a wind chill temperature of 22), but I was only outside driving to and from the apartment in an unheated golf cart (a few minutes each way). Do you think it could be from the weather, or should I start looking for a new phone?

I've sent a message to the scheduler. Do you think there's any way I can salvage the shop?

Having had technical issues on Ellis shops before... It will be totally hit-and-miss as Ellis will leave it up to the client. I recently had one where, during the shop, I had to make an awkward turn and inadvertently unplugged my video. I had an audio backup, which was fine. The client really wanted the video, so the shop was lost. I had an audio shop where I dropped my phone and managed to turn off the recorder when I picked it up. The client was fine with a 50% audio 50% written shop.

I would not write a report until you hear back from EPMS.

It could have just been an iBlip. Look at the technical specs for your phone to see what the temperature tolerance is.

I was surprised to learn that Apple suggests 32° Fahrenheit as the lowest operating ambient temperature. Hopefully someone else will benefit from the information, too.

The display on any phone will become increasingly sluggish as the temperature drops. Likewise, the battery power decreases dramatically as the temperature drops. A battery is actually a controlled (and largely reversible) chemical reaction. Chemical reaction rates double with every 10 degree C increase in temperature, and drop in half with every 10 degree C drop in temperature. 10 degrees C is roughly 18 degrees F. Every battery has less power when cold (even your car battery has a "cold cranking capacity" which is much lower than the cranking capacity when the weather is warm). If your LED or LCD phone display (or even a TV set stored in an unheated area during extreme cold) gets below freezing, allow it to warm up before turning the power on. Avoid storing below -4 F.

So it's now been 24 hours since I reported the shop had been incorrectly completed. I asked for guidance on what I should do. Nothing but crickets. That's probably giving me the answer I need, but it would be nice to get some type of response back!

They are likely contacting the client and waiting for a response from the client. I'd use their envelope system and say, "Hi, I'm just checking in on this. I do want to know if I should write this thing up."

MFJohnson, I have used the envelope system to contact them. One additional time last night and once today :-)

Nice explanation!
