Video shops

How do you get training for video shops? What kind of equipment do you need and does it have to be the company preferred kind? I have seen some shops posted that want the Lawmate 500 and when I looked online, there are a few different types available. I REALLY want to do video but really don’t have $400 and up to buy one. How do you get the experience needed for a job if you haven’t done a video shop? Whenever I can figure out how I can do some video for a regular shop, would that help show experience to get video shops? Or are there classes that you have to take and get certified for? Does anyone have any suggestions or advice? It’s killing me seeing video shops in my area that I could do if I had the equipment and experience to quality for them.

Some companies will loan you equipment, allowing you to try it out a bit before committing $400. They also frequently have their own online training for the video equipment. EPMS, for instance, is a god place to start.

Hard work builds character and homework is good for your soul.
Also the IMSC (Independent Mystery Shoppers Coalition) offers free on-line video training with a top notch video trainer and scheduler. Yes you MUST use equipment that meets the audio and video standards of the client and MSC. Check with IMSC for recommended vendors and equipment. Be sure to ask the vendor for a chart showing which MSCs accept video from which equipment. The PV-500 with an adequate model button camera is the industry standard. BEWARE of vendors that do not have good reviews here, Much of what is offered on the Internet is junk.
