Yeah, saw one of the employee notes elsewhere. Definitely not headed for careers as editors or writers.
Until approx. 2008, there was a single Sonic near my home in Dayton, Oh.; it was a round trip of about 45 miles and made for an enjoyable bike trip. I am guessing the parent company noticed the success of that franchisee and decided if some is good, more is better. They began popping up like weeds AND, almost as quickly being pulled, as the first of the expansion lasted a mere one year, with more to come. Just last week, three in the Dayton market, which are not the three mentioned in the article, closed. This did not surprise me, as I regularly drive by two and they rarely had any cars on the lot.
I wonder if the news coverage will cause a reduction in tips when the Sonic employees return to work. Now that it's been publicized that they earn the same hourly wage as other NON-tipped employees, like McDonald's and other counter-service fast foods, instead of the lower rate for employees expected to receive tips, it might cause fewer people to tip them.
There is one in my area. Service is getting worse instead of better. Last time i shopped it I was in the drive thru 45 minutes with 3 cars in front of me. I will not be shopping it anymore.
The one by me has lousy reviews and I opt to do the other FF shop that is advertised by the same msc.
The one near me is filthy. I refuse to shop there anymore.

I just thought it was funny how they all quit at once. Big middle finger to everyone.
I went to a Sonic and the manager was standing right outside the front door smoking a cigarette..... (that's a first ) and he looked a bit unkempt and acted like it did not bother him to smoke at the front door where the car hops were walking by with the food. (there was a smoke table at the end of the parking lot). So, the next time I drove by, the place was CLOSED, They tore it down and put a popular business in it's place. tongue sticking out smiley
I don't shop Sonic at all. I did it once and thought it sucked. I am in Ohio, but those cities are nowhere near me. Sounds pretty bad though.
Well as long as it doesn't spread to FL. I've gotta have my cheeseburger fix and if it's bonused and reimbursed that's even better.
I actually work in Circleville, Ohio where one of the very descriptive notes was left.. I heard about it right away as it’s a small town... I don’t personally know anyone who works there but must say it was extremely clean and great service so I was surprised to hear about this situation. The town I will say is largely supportive of the employees leaving and some citizens have said that the employees were mistreated but I can’t personally comment on that because I don’t know firsthand what was going on...
I quit Sonic a while ago because the local manager complained to the MSC about one of my reports. This is the cherry on top. Why would I want to shop at a fast food establishment that doesn't think highly enough of its workers to pay them the actual minimum wage? If a carhop gets a tip, it should be on top of what they earn. I get that there are some parallels to table service but the folks eating lunch at Sonic aren't expecting the extra charge; besides, the clientele aren't exactly dripping in money to do so.
