Hotel Shops

I am a little discouraged this morning. Over the past week, I have been eligible for hotel shops with multiple companies. I've applied immediately after receiving notification but have been passed over and it has been assigned to others.

Is there anything that I can do to make myself more appealing to the companies? I'd like to take this to my mystery shopping to the next level but so far I've been unsuccessful.

Hotel shops are among the most sought after by shoppers. Hundreds apply for every available shop. I don't know how long you've been shopping, but I would just keep on shopping, reporting in a timely manner, and increasing your value to the MSC as a trusted, reliable shopper.

I feel that. Hotel shops get a lot of competition. I have done shops that I don't want just to prove myself for the ones that I do.

You can also just email the scheduler directly and politely ask. They may remember to call you when first when someone else cancels on a shop. You never want to be a pest, but it never hurts to make sure they know your name beyond an application.

What I have noticed for hotels is that they actually prefer not to have the same shoppers visit too often. You can have a crew for more occasional shops but a larger pool is necessary for properties that get shopped on the regular.

I think it's not so much that they have a preferred crew as that they prefer shoppers with a really good track record.
Yes, this was my thought. Unfortunately, I have not been completing shops for more than a couple of years.
There is no reason for it to take years and years. I would recommend writing to a scheduler at a company whose shops you want and ask what you can do to improve your application. Like I already said, sometimes all you have to do to stand out is to ask.

This is assuming that you already do regular, good quality work for that company. If you have a shop for them this month, put in a little extra work. I have found that including details that are not asked for can get a rave review. It shouldn't be a novel, but writing a coherent narrative vs a series of sentences. Maybe you already do that, but for years, all I did was the bare bones writing. I got consistent 10 ratings but the comments changed after I adjusted my style.
One of the companies that I shop for doesn't let the same shopper do the same hotel more than once. So I guess that might increase your odds haha. But it still seems hard to get them. Unless they're international, then you might have a better chance maybe because there doesn't seem to be as many shoppers in certain places.
If you have done regular, good quality work for ACL, call and ask them to let you see the hotel shops. You can start looking at next month's shops starting around the 18th of any month. AND, be sure to apply as "back-up" for shops that show as already assigned. No pay, but you will get hotel shop experience, and rewards points!!! Then you can start telling other MSC's schedulers that you have successfully done x number of hotels with good reviews.

Poor customer service? Don't get mad; get video.
I just wrote to a company who I've done a couple shops for asking if they have hotel/shops in Las Vegas. They were very nice, asking me to send my work card which I did. The head of the Vegas jobs said she needed to mail me papers and I'm good to go, having told her my dates. I think hotel shops are lower than ever, at least I'm not seeing many unless they are far far away with no travel expense. Just keep trying and do lots of other work to prove yourself.

Live consciously....
Don't be discouraged, OP. Rejoice that you haven't had a hotel shop! I am so fed up with them. I just got off from my dozenth call/email over the last month PLEADING with the company to get the charges reversed. And this is a shop I got zero fee for, just the night stay and a drink. Most of the time they are not worth the administrative headache, such as the one I recently did with 31 different interactions that needed to happen between 4 pm and noon the next day. Didn't even get a shower in their fancy bathroom. smiling smiley I always have to nag the MS companies to get charges reversed. Weary.

Shopping domestic and international locations since 2003.
