Marriott Platinum Hotel Shop

For those of you who have done this shop - how long is your account bumped up to platinum for? Is it for the remainder of the year, and the next year, as if you earned it? Is it just temporary? Is it...forever????

YMMV. Once it stayed on my account 2 years. Once only a few months.

Most often it has been for a year. That can generate a heck of a pile of rewards points, even when you shop, or stay at on your own, some of their less expensive brands.

Based in MD, near DC
Shopping from the Carolinas to New York

Poor customer service? Don't get mad; get video.
Yes - the shop itself doesn't pay at all so I'm just doing it to get platinum status as I do travel a bit and this could be really helpful. However, not if they go in and take it away!
I had the same thought of getting the platinum status and maintaining it by doing one shop a year with them.
Now is the time of year to do it - last year I kept mine through the Sheraton/Marriott merge conversion bonvoy hoopla and was then transferred to Titanium until February when I went back down to Platinum (which is where I would be anyway given my actual travel patterns). Is the bump only to Platinum now or to Titanium (the old Platinum).

Platinum.
@MickeyB, I somehow maintained my status in the merge through 2020. Last time I actually qualified was 2017...but I think it might have to do with having the Bonvoy credit card.

Yea, I am Platinum as well through 2020, but I was downgraded February 28th from Titanium - which I got during the merge. I honestly don't know if I actually should have qualified to be Platinum or not (since they merged together nights from Sheraton and Marriott)? I think I did qualify just based on nights for Platinum but definitely I shouldn't have been given Titanium - that had to have come from the shops I did where I was upgraded to old Plat based on the pre-merge system...

I don't have any of the cards (Bonvoy, old Marriott, Sheraton, Ritz Carlton) anymore, so that is not what is going on...

I am also totally unclear about what the benefits are of the new program … as a Platinum only (no longer a Titanium) I was treated well recently at Marriott Anaheim (minor upgrade, not prompted, free full breakfast for two, and extra points) but I only received a $10 food and beverage voucher at a Westin when I was Titanium in early Feb.
The credit card doesn't get you to Platinum status I don't believe. How do you know you have Platinum status until 2020? Does it say on your profile somewhere?

No, it doesn't. So I don't know that I will, but I was Titanium until February 28 of 2019 and then dropped to Platinum which is a lower status level. So I am assuming I will stay Platinum until next end of February. But I could be wrong. I haven't done this shop since spring of 2018, but I just counted my nights in 2018 and I was not at 50 (the Platinum requirement) - I was around 40... so who knows. Maybe I am still holding status from doing this shop a long time ago? Or maybe Marriot does a soft landing and instead of dropping me to Gold where I should have been, they just moved me down one level to Platinum?
The card gives you the equivalent of 20 stays, I think. Combined with all my shops, I probably hit the 50 mark for 2018. I was platinum and expecting the "soft-landing" to a lesser tier at the beginning of March.

Since my status is earned from stays, it's always going to be active 'till the end of the next February.

The benefits really depend on the property, though. JW gives you a $10 breakfast credit yet others give you free breakfast, bonus points and drinks at the bar!
Mine is still bumped from a shop a year ago. It's the ONLY reason this shop is worth it.

Your status should last until February of the following year. You get 15 nights credit with the Marriott Credit Cards. I reached Platinum Lifetime Status partly from doing these. I was bumped up to Titanium Status when the switch was made and kept it this year even though I was nowhere near the required 75 nights.
I kept Titanium as well. Not to worry though, thanks to the double elite night credit promo and back to back 4-5 week routes I'm actually going to qualify for Titanium this year before the promo ends on 6/30.
