There is not a decent-sized city within about two hours of you... Do you have any ability to get to Birmingham, Memphis, Nashville, Jackson, etc? If not, you will struggle to keep busy in this industry. (Mystery shopping does not work so well if there are not places to shop.)

Small towns do have banks, gas stations, grocery stores, etc. So, if you sign up with enough companies, you ought to be able to find a modest amount of work...

Hard work builds character and homework is good for your soul.
I don't know Mississippi at all but looking on the map it looks as if Tupulo is 3-5 miles away. Still a very small city by my Los Angeles standards but you can probably find all the types of shops MF Johnston talks about in Tupulo. Banks, grocers etc. It might not be enough for a full time income but it will be helpful. Keep in mind that even though I live in Los Angeles with thousands of jobs, I very rarely find a job less than 3- 5 miles away. And 5 miles for me takes at least 45 minutes round trip of driving and parking and walking let alone the time to do the job.
If you need to go to a larger city for anything...doc appts, government appt., friends , relatives etc. look for jobs to do along the way or in that city while you are there anyway. Increase the radius on the msc's you are signed up with to more miles to see what is out there so you know in advance if you are planning a small trip.
Yes, many many companies have jobs that do not require you to pay out of pocket (or just a very small amount, like a $3 gas purchase, or a pack of gum for POV receipt). Or require a purchase, but you can get something you really need (at hardware store shops, I get batteries and light bulbs). Some companies have shops at grocery stores, so you buy the groceries you need anyway, and get reimbursed for them. Helps the budget a LOT. If you are signed up with the "top 15 discussed MSCs" on the "Official List" below, you will find several of these companies. Good luck. I also live in a rural area; the nearest town has about 5,000 people, and is an hour away. In order to make it work, I have to find several shops to do on the same day in the same town. To find several shops, you must be signed up with many MSCs.
Is there anyone else that you can 'team up with' and drive to other places? If you can pool your resources, you both can complete shops and get more bang for your combined bucks. You would still be independent of each other and do your own work, but you might share travel costs, save a little money on bulk items that you can purchase during shops, etc.

I agree with you! I am in a very small town. It is 100 miles to most shops. I too am on fixed income. I have to get two or more shops in that area just to pay for my gas. When one of them doesn't go through, I have to cancel the other. This causes my numbers to not look good. I was even turned down for a scheduler position because of this. I wish schedulers were more understanding.
I too live in a small town in my case ijn OK . I work some merchanding jobs to go along with my shopping and it help to add income. So try adding this type of work to your shopping and see if that helps.
What about part-time work as an employee? Some towns utilize funded workers. Is there any funded program for your situation? .

I admit, I had to Google Verona. I am a big fan of MS. My friend is in Gulfport but she does drives to Biloxi and New Orleans. I have a small child and I am often limited to do shops that I like, when I like. More then half of my income are call and internet/online shops. They don't pay whole lot and many people overlook them because of the small fees but I think it's is worth looking into it.
