Dunkin' Donuts

I haven't had a Dunkin' Donut in a very long time.

Since before drive-thru windows were invented.

Forty years? Maybe more.

I was on a route earlier this week, and lo and behold! There sits a Dunkin' Donut! With a parking lot roomy enough to sit and fill in my questionnaire from my recently completed shop! OMG! I'm in HEAVEN! I mean, really, this is the girl who used to get a DOZEN Dunkin' Donuts on the way home from work -- and turn around and go back and get a SECOND DOZEN so hubby wouldn't know I ate the first dozen!!!!

If you arrived at just the right time, you could make your choice amid the aromas of fresh from the oven donuts -- so warm the chocolate icing hasn't set, and would run down your chin as you chomped at the warm, gooey chunks of wonderfulness.

First thing I noticed about this Dunkin -- no display cases where you could linger as you make your oh-so-carefully deliberated choices! And no donut aromas. No baking or frying fragrances. Not at olfactory experience to be had!!!!

The delicacies are now made elsewhere and DELIVERED -- yes, delivered! -- to your local Dunkin.

Crushed, I left without buying a donut.

Dunkin' needs a shopping program! So somebody can tell them this is a monumental mistake on their part! Bring back the EXPERIENCE! Bring back the sounds and smells of baking!!

Vent over..

Not all of them are this way, many around me still bake on site, and the smell is great. The coffee smell at most locations is the strongest scent. Also, we still have the exact display cases I remember since the mid-70s.

I feel your disappointment! I will say not all do this but it is disappointing for sure. That's why I support my local doughnut shops because they always do fresh!
This is even more fun when you go to Dunkin early in the AM and the delivery was late, so they don't have donuts when you are there!
I go to Dunkin (they are supposedly are dropping Donuts from their name) every day for coffee. But if I want a freshly made doughnut I drive a little further to the local doughnut shop and they are delicious!
The donuts from there are horrible now. I still get a coffee every morning but we no longer buy donuts from there. Even Walmart bakery has better donuts (and cheaper)
Most of the Dunkin around me do not make donuts on site any more. I wish I had a Krispy Kreme near me.

You ate a dozen donuts at once? Wouldn't you get sick?!?

LOL!!! NOPE!!! But I was young, and burned all those calories right off.

(I would DEFINITELY get sick now if I ate a dozen. Someone gave me a whole chocolate cake two weeks ago, and it took me 4 or 5 days to eat it all, LOL!)
RobG, Really?? They don't have the HOT sign in the window any more?

KK tried to make some inroads in New England many years ago, but ran into financial trouble and couldn't compete with Dunkin Donuts, so they closed their New England shops. The closest one to me is at a casino in Connecticut. I was down in North Carolina on business 7 years ago, and that is the last time I had a KK donut. Before I went down there I put the KK app on my phone, and we stopped at one in Virginia because the app said the donuts were hot.

Google search "Krispy Kreme challenge Raleigh NC"
In my region, Dunkin Donuts that are in convenience stores get shopped. I did two of them last week. I do both the convenience store and the Dunkin shops at the same time (with the MSCs permission). I love the chocolate covered cream filled ones, but I like the bacon/egg/cheese breakfast wraps, too.
When I was about 8 years old I ate most of a box of donuts and yes, I got so sick I couldn't eat a donut for many years. I was actually an adult before I ate one again.
I loved their lemon filled donuts but can't find them anymore. Guess they are not so popular. It's a tossup between them and Krispy Kreme for the best donuts.
There is a Duck Donuts that opened near us and that I have shopped before. I probably could eat a fair number of those if I didn't care about my health. They make them fresh and you choose the type of toppings, type of glaze, and type of donut. The first time we went somewhere like that was Federal Donuts, in Philly, which also sells fried chicken (!).
There weren't any Duck Donuts near me so I didn't bother taking the test. I would've tried it. They have the Krispy Kreme shops near me but I didn't want to end with a dozen donuts.

Sure there is. If it wasn't shopped I wouldn't have heard of it. Made to order donuts. There are quite a few of those kinds of donuts stores.
I used to work in the cash office at a locally owned grocery store. I had to be there at 3:30am to set up the cash drawers before we opened, so I was there while the donuts were made each morning. For .79, I could get an apple fritter the size of my face. Add a 50% employee discount... may as well get two, right? It was a problem.

Ok, at first I thought it was a typo. Is there really a Duck Donuts?

Yes. [www.duckdonuts.com]
There is a Duck Donuts near me and I have shopped them twice. They make only cake donuts which are not my favorite. We have a great shop called Jupiter donuts and those are really great although expensive. I think they are about $180 a piece. ( Ihave not bought donuts in a while so I am not sure what the cost for DD is.)
eclark3 some KK make the donuts, some don't. We use to deliver them to a smaller store in town. I don't recall if the hot sign was present, but I am willing to bet it was. If I remember correctly, they glazed them
I've shopped ducked donuts and krispy kreme but not Dunkin. Are they shopped? i'd think so.
Okay, now I KNOW there has to be a typo going on...did you mean $1.80 apiece?

A few years ago I did DD for a timing project. So sad. The food and coffee were TINY and cost as much or more than some gas stations that have excellent coffee and donuts. Maybe that's why I was the only customer? Since, the DDs I knew of have closed.
