Would you make the pitch or not?

A scheduler is e-mailing me (and everyone else in my province) to do some last minute mystery shops. Like she raised the offer from $50 to $200.

Thing is I've run the numbers, reality here is I am looking at $600-$800 to do it, and $1000 wouldn't be out of mind in my opinion. It's not greed that is motivating me, it's reality which makes those numbers. Fuel, Food, Maintenance, insurance, hotels cost. If I am driving at least 16-18 hours to do one assignment those things need to be covered.

Would you respond to the schedule who is telling you to name your price, here is it? Or would you stay silent?

If you have the time and they pay you what you want, then go for it. It doesn't hurt to ask and to get anywhere in life, you have to ask. Let us know what you decide to do.
Do it. All they can say is no. I've had some ridiculous requests honored.

Seriously, nobody cares that you're offended.
And I've had an immense number of reasonable offers turned down.

But I vote, go for it!
Or... is it possible to pick up other shops along the way? At $400 could this be the base for a profitable route? If so, you could explain the numbers to the scheduler and ask what they can really offer with the idea that you would look into adding additional work.

Hard work builds character and homework is good for your soul.
OR you can do it your way AND MFJ's way. smiling smiley The scheduler doesn't have to know that you have other ways to maximize your profits.

And, a third way... tell that scheduler that you could do it for X but only if she/he could add other shops with bonuses along your route so that it would make a very profitable route. Then, ALSO ask other schedulers for shops along that route. Of course, let them all know that you will need deadline extensions because of the intense travel schedule.
