Seeing another mystery shopper while performing your mystery shop

I recently was performing a gas station shop and after noticing a person taking a picture of pumps they went inside to get the employee to authorize a form. I am pretty certain they were performing an audit. I waited in line and made my purchase, but after asking for a reciept the other (im assuming shopper) looked at me and smiled. I have never seen another shopper while shopping and I am curious if anyone else has. I dont know if I should tell the msc I saw the other shopper while doing a shop. I know our identities are to be kept top secret. Also why evaluate customer service and perform an audit from the same day? Anyone else have stories of something like this happening?

Would that situation be likely to provide multiple perspectives of one employee or shift crew?

It could be that different companies perform the audits and the cs shops so there is no way to ensure they are different days. As long as the auditor didn't say anything to you or you to them to explicitly out yourself, I see no reason to alert the msc. They smiled at you after you were done with the shop so even if they tipped off an employee, it was too late to change anything that happened on the shop.
I’ve seen 76 gas and CK shops at the same location for two different MSC’s. I’ve even been able to schedule them both on the same day, but of course used different times and separate receipts.

I had it happen once. I got an emergency oh please can you shop this grocery store. We were on the way to my husbands class reunion actually in the same town so said yes. So doing the shop I am at the bakery where you are required to count the number of the loaves of French bread as well as some other bakery items I see a woman with a grocery cart with the 15 pages of the form printed off and in the front part of the cart. She is marking things off etc. To be honest she seemed a little ditzy but whatever. I did not say anything to her or the MSC until they contacted me questioning the number of loaves of bread. At that time I told them I saw the other shopper and was not happy since we made this stop as a huge favor to the company. I said I was 100% sure I was correct and described the other shopper and her stack of forms. My shop was accepted and I never heard another word about it. I assume they went ahead and assigned both of us since it was last minute but seeing her do it so poorly and then being questioned was a little annoying.

I had a shop at Costco where I purchased up to 6 of a beauty item and had to photo the display. This was not an item someone would usually buy in bulk. There was another person there with 6 in her cart taking a pic. I was curious so I said I had never used the product and asked if she recommended it since she was buying so many of them. She told me she never used it before but was purchasing them all for her mom. I am pretty sure she was another ms. They sent me there 4x over two weeks and I could have chosen more trips but I had enough of the product by then.
I too have encountered another shopper doing audits while I was conducting a mystery shop at the location. I, of course, said nothing and went about my business. Another time, I saw a young shopper sitting on a bench in the mall, filling in her reports. I sat next to her and suggested she should do them in her car.
RMurp007, I don't do many mall shops but what's wrong with sitting on a bench in a mall and filling out a report as long as it's not around the location you're shopping. I see people lounging in malls, coffee shops, etc. enjoying the AC and doing work all the time.
While doing a gas station inspection, I had another shopper (they were just going into the store, not shopping) approach me and ask me if what I was doing was the shop that I was indeed doing. They didn't otherwise bother me, and I was out of my main shopping area then, so they weren't really competition.

I was once doing a Chevron mystery shop and ran into another shopper doing the audit at the same time. I would guess since the audits have a wider range (I think) it would be impossible for them to ensure they were never done at the same time. We actually had a long conversation, 30 minutes or so. Was pretty interesting.

I've seen other shoppers a couple of times. Once when I was shopping a Big Lots I was lurking behind a display to get the description of the cashier and heard a shopper get a phone call offering him a shop. I've had shoppers stop and say hi when they saw me doing gas station audits a couple of times, and just yesterday I saw a young woman standing in the grocery store taking notes. I've been told tales about the other shoppers that do gas stations in the area by the staff. I usually just shrug and get on with my audit. Only once have I relayed the tale I was told to the MSC and that was because the shopper violated the guidelines in several ways including throwing a tantrum, yelling and pounding on the counter and insisting on going behind the cash registers.
Once I got up way too early and #($*%& if I wasn't out of coffee. I went to the gas station that's a block away for coffee. My hair was a disaster and I was barely dressed and wearing slippers. I noted the unusual behavior of the staff when I entered and thats when I saw the man in business casual performing an audit on his iPad. No way was I going to speak to anyone at that point but I do see other shoppers maybe more than what would be considered usual.
I was doing a JITB shop when you still had to go inside and take photos of the menuboard and restroom. Another shopper was there doing a GrubHub job. She asked me about the shop.

I was the only one shopping the area and there were about 20 JITBs there. I could not possibly do all of them two or three times a month so I gave her a referral to the MSC. I think she shopped them for a while but it's back to me and me only.
I was doing a gas station shop 400 miles from home.

A gentleman smiled at me and said "Hope you're getting a big enough bonus to make this worthwhile".

And I've had many, many people ask me what in the world was I doing? I always just say I'm an inspector. Most people seem to think it's cool.
I was doing a big box computer store for a computer scenario, and I am walking around the computers waiting for the salesman as he was with a customer. I heard the customer give the very exact scenario that I was suppose to give. Needless to say, I left and called the MSC right away. They cancelled the shop, but still paid me. They checked and said it wasn't one of there shoppers as I was the only one assigned to that store.
Why cancel? I mean it worked out great cause you got paid without having to do a report but still....

I don't know why they did. I was willing to go back another day and do it.
Why even do that? Why not just continue on as it was?
