Need tech help

I have a wireless plan that I love. I've had it for years and it is low priced and adequate, but it does not have a data plan. To get one from my current carrier it would raise my bill considerable. Is there a company that offers a low priced stand alone data plan? I was looking into Tello but it needs a phone to attach it. My questions are can I get out one of the old cell phone laying around the house and use it and get a new number that I can use my tablet on? OR: can I attach a data plan on a google phone number? If none of these work, does anyone have a suggestion on how I get a data cheap plan?

There was another thread about this. I purchased a Tracfone plan on ebay. For a total of $50 I got an LG phone with not a whole lot of memory but okay for me, 1200 minutes and 1200 texts and 1.8 gigs of data for an entire year. I can switch to free wifi whenever it is available but they sell more minutes or texts or data for about $10 a pop in case you run out. So far I have had it since Sept and still have almost all my data left. I am not a cell person but I do have it in case I need to call a msc from the field or switch the data plan on in an emergency;. I mostly use it to be able to get reward points from an app.at food places that don't have wifi. I had a tablet for that purpose but after just 3 years it was too slow to accommodate the upgraded apps. so for $50 a year I got this phone. Works well for me.
If you have cable, check if your provider offers cell service.

Is this for a phone or a tablet? Your post mentions both. Standalone data plans are available for tablets that do not have a phone function (TMobile is who I use). If it is for a phone, your only option is an all-in-one plan.
As Sandyf stated, the Tracfone is something you may want to look at. With the right Tracfone bundle, you OWN the phone, plus you get talk minutes/text/data all together for 1 year for under $100 one time charge. The models that are 5 inch screen, 5.3", 5.5, or 5.7"are the ones I'd think about since anything smaller makes it hard to see. Ebay or HSN are the places to look at them.

If you need more help, let us know and I'd be glad to recommend a model based on hearing more about your requirements.

We have Tracfone 5.3 inch LG and Motorola 5.7 inch phones with 1500 minutes talk, text and 1.5 GB data for $79 and $89.

You can't hotspot a Tracfone though, and she needs the data for her tablet.

I am not sure but I got the sense she needed the data for the tablet because that is what she is currently using thinking a phone would be more expensive. So a phone that is inexpensive might replace the need to have wifi on the tablet. OP can chime in on that. I replaced my tablet with a smart phone as it was more useful and less expensive.
I have both. I use the tablet for 90% of the jobs, as it is easier to type on, ad the bigger screen makes checking pictures a breeze for my aging eyes.
