I have a job in which it is mandatory to read a script verbatim. If we are tested by mystery shopping callers on some aspect of something, we provide additional information. This does not involve cell phone audits, but it is one example of a script at work. From a distance, I would guess that reading the script as described by the OP is a teaching tool. Can the employee read? Can they pronounce the jargon? After time has passed, can the employee provide accurate information without referring to a script?
