Buy storage unit & reveal?

Has anyone done the storage facility shops where you are supposed to go through the process, then actually put down the deposit — and then reveal your a shopper and get a full refund?

How did it go? I hate hate HATE these kind of shops with a passion — except the MSP is desperate, and the pay is actually getting fairly decent... it’s a newer chain storage unit company so there are plenty around me.

There’s a different MSP and storage company that usually pays about the same as these ones are bonused at — except you don’t actually have to buy and reveal... I’ve done a number of those. This is the same MSP that plays pricing games with fast food — so it’s not a surprise lol

I did one, and it went fine. I double checked in their system that it was voided, but it didn't show up on my credit card for another 2 days.

One issue is that because you are actually purchasing the unit, you can't use an alias. That company keeps your name in the system even if you just reserve a unit, so you may never be able to do another shop with them.

If you are referring to the shop that I think you are, yes they are easy. When I did it, the employee knew what to do and I suspect he had a warning that a mystery shopper would be coming in. But then, like veebeeshops they ask for an ID when you reserve the unit, so your name is in the system. The guidelines say if you have done this before to use a different phone number, but your name and address are already in the system so I don't know how that would work. Bare has a client where they wipe your name from the client's system once the shop is over. I wish other MSCs would do that. I would definitely do more of those storage unit shops if I could.

I did one and it was super easy, short sweet and pleasant. It certainly helped that the CS was friendly and performed according to the guidelines. I was paid promptly.

I did one, and it was smooth and easy. You have to use your true identity, so unless you bring someone else along with their own ID and credit card, you will never be able to do another. Bringing along another person for this purpose is permitted by the MSC, even encouraged when they have a hard to fill shop.
