Shop disqualified because they don't know how to read a timestamp on a photo!

I just got an email about a shop that was disqualified because it said that after I did a drive thru I was to observe and take photos of another vehicle. They said I did it at the same time which makes absolutely no sense because I couldn't have taken the picture! If they can't figure out that photos have date and time stamp properties then they apparently don't know what they are doing!

I agree but you would be surprised at how many do not realize any picture you take has "properties" or "file info" (right click on the photo or click on the 3 dots on top right) to find the details of date, time, camera used, f-stop used, ISO, and a multitude of other information about how that picture was captured.

Wow, tweety, I sure didn't know that! (My ignorance is vast!)

However, when I tried it, it told me the photo I took Saturday afternoon was taken January 7, 2007!!!

Boy, wouldn't THAT throw the MSC for a loop!!!
And a lot of people probably also don't know you can erase the metadata (which is the timestamp, etc) on any photo.
Cease - Having the wrong date on your phone or camera could also get the shop excluded. There are some MSCs which specifically look for the metadata. Presumably, they assume that none of us know how to alter the metadata. Thee are also some MSCs which require the date and time to be shown on the photo itself. For those of you who use Android phones, I do not know any way to do that without using another program to take the photos. I personally use Open Camera which is free and does amazing things besides putting the date and time on the image. That, and everything else that it does, are options.

Shopping Southeast Pennsylvania, Delaware above the canal, and South Jersey since 2008
I always just e-mail the MSC and tell them I use a digital camera that after every photo resets the date/time to January 7, 2007.

For the few that's a problem, I just don't accept their shops.

Most of them just have a good giggle, and tell me it's good to go.

(Fascinating discussion, though....now I suspect I know how some "savvy" shoppers game the system....more than one shopper that I know personally has used photos from the web. Always wondered how they got away with it! And no, please spare me the details -- I don't WANT to know how to cheat!)

the problem with using photos from the web, besides being unethical, is that they can easily be found with a reverse photo lookup. Most people edit metadata to keep copyrights on their photos. or to put their business name in the photo so if somebody sees it they will be referred to their business.
