Am I being stiffed??

I need some advice: I've worked with this MSC for a long time and I enjoy working for them. They're one of the only companies in my area that reimburse for mileage. A few weeks ago, they needed someone to do a shop. It was kinda last minute and the scheduler added a bonus. I was a little surprised at the size of the bonus because it was in my City and there was no significant mileage, but I figured she was throwing it in because it was last minute and I was helping her out. The bonus was clearly laid out in the confirmation email and on my dashboard. But today when I went to look at another shop I noticed the bonus had been completely taken off even though the shop was rated 10/10. I've emailed the Scheduler but haven't heard back. If you were in my position would you pursue it or just leave it? On the one hand I don't want to mess up the relationship but on the other, it was a written offer/contract.

I would expect them to honor it. Sometimes bonuses drop off but then show up again, so it could just be a system blip. Always approach like it's an honest mistake until they tell you otherwise.

But yeah, if they don't honor an agreed upon bonus then I won't trust them as much in the future. That's a big negative to a business relationship. You're not the one messing around.
Exactly. I'm scheduled for 2 shops with them this weekend (with mileage) and now I'm a little leery. Hope they honor it coz I was counting on that money.
If I were you and if I had the scheduler's phone number, I would try to call/text her and get this resolved before the weekend.
Thanks. I'll try calling her. She's usually really quick with emails but maybe she's got stuff going on.
I do know it gets much, much harder to get this corrected if you wait. Like impossible once the shop is paid. Do keep trying to get in touch with her.
I had one scheduling company in which I worked with one scheduler, and whenever he called me. He asked me "You heading up to spend time with the wife's family?" That was my hint he needed a particular location done. He always threw something special in for me.
Well, I just heard back from her boss. She says the bonus was 'offered in error'. That it should never have been offered in the first place since it was in the same city. So that's that I guess....
I would still pursue this. It’s not not just location. You may have had other work that you had to reschedule to get this bonused work done. If they offer a bonus, even in error, they should be obligated to pay it. If it was a typo, such as $100 vs $10 then maybe I can understand. However if the bonus was a reasonable amount it should be paid.
Miss Cece - If the shop was already completed before the error was caught, I would expect them to honor the promise. Maybe what they have to do for reporting purposes is to add the bonus to another shop and call it something else, but I would persist in getting that money. If they do not take satisfactory action, you might reconsider taking future shops from them.
Cece,

It is decision time for you. As the error was not on your end. do you accept the owner's reply or move on to other companies? The problem with acceptance is that it tends to become habit forming. I have always chosen not to permit anyone to abuse me, but, to each his/her own. When an error is on my end, I correct without whining and require MSC's to extend me the same courtesy.
No...if you have it in writing, they need to honor it!! Don't let this go....go higher up if you have anything at all in writing!!!!!
Thanks for the support. I've just sent the boss an email pretty much summarizing all your points. And I told her I'm not comfortable doing the 2 shops scheduled for today till this is resolved. We'll see how it goes...
Good. They should honor this bonus and correct their system so as to avoid erroneously offered bonuses in future.

Just to put this in perspective, what is the amount of the bonus and the fee itself? The amount may have some bearing on how vigorously you may want to fight this and the position of the MSC as well.
It was $120. Definitely not chump change smiling smiley

Just to clarify, this was a luxury car assignment with a test drive and followup requirement. The pay was $90 with a $30 bonus.
So they offered a $30 bonus to get the shop done, and now that the shop is done they don't want to pay the bonus. Definitely pursue it, right up to the point where you have to decide whether to risk damaging your relationship with the company. Because they are shafting you.
Well, I heard back from the boss's boss and it looks like they're not budging. She offered me 2 other shops with bonuses to make up for the error. On the one hand I'm tempted but on the other... this could happen again. Like shopperbob said above, I have some decisions to make. I don't know what lessons there are in this. Maybe to double-check everything. Thanks for all the advice. I truly appreciate the support this community provides.

Not sure how”double-checking everything” would have helped you in this situation. The MSC is clearly wrong if they offered you a bonus in writing and now refuse to pay it. I personally would not want to work for them again. I think you should also post the name of the MSC here to warn others.
I have never run across a MSC that pays mileage......which one is it? Rhymes with? Sounds like? Starts with what letter???

How is that related to this thread?
It was mentioned in the thread therefor it's related. I am curious as well. Although I am going to assume this is likely a Canadian company? I know where the luxury car shops are in the US and none of those MSCs pay mileage. Plus the user name includes "Sask" which makes me think they are possibly in Saskatchewan?

I thought she wrote in another post that the bonus was $120? So maybe originally the bonus offered was $30 but then when the confirmation email came in it showed $120? This is confusing, OP, could you please clarify? Also, if they offered to add additional money to the two other shops you were doing already without bonuses to make up for the error, I think that's fair and I would accept that offer.
