Be careful what you say on FB.....

I was out and about yesterday and saw a man with a camera (not a phone) snapping pic's of the large retail store.
My first thought was oh, another shopper in my town, so obvious....who else does that?

Retail Compliance Auditor. I love that. I am using that the next time I update my resume. Lol.

A little nonsense now and then, is relished by the wisest men.
So, funny - me TOO!

I don't talk about work on social media. Ever.
I don't understand why people are actually on FB.

I enjoy it. I have a friend and family base that is widespread. For instance I have a ton of friends that I've met at various music festivals and concerts. We often go to other music festivals and concerts in groups, so it's a great way for all of us to communicate as a group. I had friends from Wisconsin, Illinois, Maryland, and Louisiana all go to Colorado for the weekend to see a band. It was fun seeing all the things they did even without being there. Which I would have been but the band sucks and I don't have a single clue why people like them.

I will say I think a lot of people use Facebook poorly. I am Facebook friends only with people that I would also pick up the phone and call. I'm not friends with Suzy that I had a 2 minute conversation with in Starbucks 7 years ago and I'm not friends with Jim that I met at a party last week. That really cuts down on the BS and the fights and the stupid political posts.

Facebook is now coming in handy for me and my family. The younger cousins are carrying on tradition and planning a Cousins club in San Francisco for later in the year. We are all contributing . When you use it to your advantage, it is a plus. I really don't post much as far as my personal life, I may use the private PM if needed

I am 'friends' with family and very, very close friends only. I have the tightest security in place that Facebook offers. So many people I know have over 1000 friends. People that they have met fleetingly at best. Not wise in my opinion.
Social media is a good thing, too. I've received some great contracts (luxury cars made in Germany) for MS positions based on my posts... it's not always negative. Sometimes you just have to be skilled in the art of internet socialization, yes?
That really sucks! Sorry that happened to you.

I can't say I've never mentioned mystery shopping on FB but in general, I try not to mention it on social media or even in real life that much. I don't think that many people outside of my family know I do it. It's not my primary job. I live in a big city, but you never know who you might know. My husband works in sales and a lot of his former co-workers end up in service industry jobs around town so I have just kept it close to the vest.

I even had a really weird coincidence.. I mainly do restaurant shops and since it's not my primary job, I am choosy about where I go and kind of try to just go places I want to try, higher end places, places in the city etc. I was talking to my co-worker one time about how I was going to shop a certain chain Asian restaurant in my suburb (close to where I live but not that close to the city location where we work). This place is thought of as waaaayyyy to "Americanized," at least in my region where there is a ton of good Asian food. I kind of played it up because it's not something I would normally go to and my co-worker is a restaurant snob. But then hubby and I went and we had a good time, great service, great shop, food was not very "authentic" but it was super tasty. Basically my assumptions were wrong, so I came in the next week and we had a whole conversation about that. We work in an open office and anyone could hear us. Then a little while later our office hired a new girl. A few months later my co-worker was chit chatting with her and found out her boyfriend is the MANAGER OF THAT EXACT RESTAURANT!!! LOL!!! So if she had overheard this, I would have really been an a-hole on a couple of levels and I learned my lesson.
It wasn't PF Changs by any chance? If so, glad you had a good experience there. I had a horrible experience when I went with friends. I had to pay for it!! I live in a Suburb of LA( 200k population) and I'm always running into people that I've "met" on FB. Or, in other ways. I thought my city was fairly large, but I guess its really not that big.
Facebook can be toxic and accounts can be hacked. Recently, an ex abusive boyfriend high jacked the account of a relative of mine and posted photoshop pictures of her on Facebook. They included pictures of her sleeping rough in bushes and looking for drugs and implied that she was homeless. None of this is true. Yet, several of her Facebook friends, suggested she get help, stop what she was doing and so on. I wrote to them on instant messenger and explained the situation. As for myself, I post nothing on my public Facebook site that I do not care if the world reads. Nor do I ever mention mystery shopping.
Who are these people, who have SO much time on their hands to do harm to others, instead of improving themselves?!? smh

Even on this private forum, there are individuals who will seek to out your true identity, then reveal you on Facebook to others. This happened to me.

Who the H are these FB people, where do they get their information, and what gives them the right to compile and store it? How secure is it? Who has access to it?

1. We do. Every time we agree to "Terms and conditions."
2. Not very.
3. Any entity that pays enough for it can get any info they want.
Hell FB gets hack a lot. Most you do not hear about but every now and then a whopper comes along. Oh and please Mark Z do not SLAPP me.
It is much easier to find people talking about mystery shopping from google leading you to this forum than it is on facebook. There are some really cool secret groups on facebook that no one can find unless they have been invited to join and they have a friend in the group. You can see closed groups some people have started but you cannot find the secret groups at all. I get a lot of job opportunities from those groups. I was fortunate to be taught how to lock down my facebook page so random people cannot see my posts on my page.
I try not to mention MS that much. I say I do inspections for branded wholesalers or properties for banks. I do odd jobs. But to the ones I do say something, I say something like you won't make any money doing that.

Using PM is no longer a safeguard. FB not only accesses them, but sells them -- even your deleted ones.

Apparently you didn't read the article. It said none of that.

I've been on a restricted FB for seven years without one problem, it's all about how you choose to set your settings....mine are for a few close friends and family with names I have approved only. I have only 32 of my chosen that can see my posts.

What that article was referencing was permissions by apps. In this instance if you grant permission to the Netflix app to interact with your profile they could see your private messages. There were 3 companies who they accidently set to give access to private messages when they weren't supposed to. They all 3 said they were unaware that they even had access. Much ado about nothing.

Besides, it's not like those apps have any human interaction. They're all used for automated tasks.

I like FB alot! I slept with it "open and with high volume alerts" during a huge fire in my county in 2016, as I was on level one evac and needed to know if I and the pets were leaving in the middle of the night. I use it for my rental biz. I have learned so much about fermenting, and growing worms, and quilting. My privacy is set to the strictest, and with less than 100 "acquaintances" there is not much anybody knows about me. And no ranting on there either.

Who on earth wants my personal PM's that has no value to anyone but me and family.....
added...maybe they want to come to our family reunion, they'd have to fly to SF, and pay for a hotel and the cost of the evening...LOL

Don't forget that some people have family in other states. I can see pictures of my family without waiting for them to come in the mail, etc. I love this! I have cousins whom I haven't seen in 20-25 years. But I've seen pictures of their kids on FB. I love doing this. I don't have the money to go visit everyone. I hope someday we do have a family reunion, but until then I've got FB!
I only rant on Tuesdays.
