New bank account for teller shops

Hi guys!

What do you think about opening up a bank account to do teller shops? I'm sure its been discussed before but I just wanted to see if anybody has anything new to add.

Opening up the actual account wouldn't be a mystery shop, that I see anyways, but I see teller shops paying $13 to do a simple transaction. It says if I'm a customer I can do it every 30 days. I assume that's only at that location too so that's even better.

Sounds like a new shop I could add to my roster as a regular. What do you guys think??

You should search for account opening bonuses from the bank, which probably give you more money than a shop anyway.
Yes I was looking but I didn't see anything to get paid to open up the account or like you said at least a bonus. I was going to email the scheduler and ask but I don't see any contact information either.
If tellers are shopped, more than likely there is also a shop with that bank to open an account. Or sometimes, like SoCalMama says there is a bonus offered by the bank to open an account.
But if teller shops are plentiful and you will earn money doing them, by all means open an account. Just be sure to know the requirements to avoid fees and stick to them.
For newer shoppers, doing teller shops can also be a way of working up to where you are offered more lucrative shops by that MSC, either for that client of for others. Back in the day (2005-2006) I did a lot of teller shops that did not even require an account, for several clients and all close to home. Then I started getting better paid offers and seeing more shops when I went to the job boards. There were days when I did 5-6 $10 teller shops, all near home. Some were so close that I could walk from one bank to the next. I feel certain that those all helped me to see more opportunities !!

Teller shops are one of my favorites..very fast shops usually and very little interaction. I would keep in mind the reporting though. If this company requires a ton in regards to reporting dont do it but if reporting doesnt require a ton of time; then do it. I agree with the others; just make sure you arent hit with fees with the account. I also like you can do these shops on a monthly basis.

Thanks for the great advice guys!!

@walesmaven This particular shop I can actually be a non-customer to do it but the rotation is 90 days vs. 30. 5-6 of these in a day sounds great. I would love that. I agree that this may actually open up some new opportunities.

I'm going to try to see if I can find a contact and ask if I can have a bonus to open it. I'll definitely do it then!
Hey..just saw the no contact info..thats a little bit unusual...probably not a scam but you may want to reach out to the msc to confirm that this is not a scam..shouldnt be too hard to find the contact info with a google search

You can check out Doctor of Credit if you want to see if there is a bonus available to open an account. That's my go to. I'm curious what bank you're talking about though if you don't mind sharing?

@bgriffin Never heard of Doctor of Credit, so I just checked it out. What a great resource! Thanks

I did not find Valley Bank in the list.

Valley Bank? There are teller scenarios for non-customers with those. They're not the kinds of scenarios you could do monthly though. It would get awkward after a couple of months.
Just did a $60.00 checking account opening today.

I think that's the point in opening the account.

Valley Bank most definitely has account opening shops. They could be included with the platform shops. Maybe they're all taken in your area.

@ShoppingDad for Valley Bank? I don’t see any

No that was just the fee the MSC paid to complete the shop.

Awkward or not I've doing the same bank shops for years, granted they're not teller shops. One banker questioned me before, but that branch has since closed.

Yea I don't see ANY account opening shops for Valley Bank on that platform. I'm going to just see if I can ask for a bonus.
I'm not sure where you are shopping from, New England teller banks are few and far between now. I used to shop 1000s in the past, last year or so, not much here. Yes, they should pay you for opening an account.

They said they would only give me $5 to open up the account.

Any other banks in your area? What about Bank of America?
Yes they have opening shops for Bank of America but no teller shops. I wanted something I could do on rotation.
Do you see any platform shops about account inquiries like opening a checking or savings account with Valley? You could do one for the pay (around $18-$20 I think) and open the a/c along with the $5 bonus offer to open it. If not this month, maybe next month. I would recommend you open the account because around here the teller shops get bonused often and from what I understand the reports are easy. I don't have an account with them, but would open one if I didn't already have 4 a/c's at various banks.

I have been known to open accounts just to be able to do teller shops. I really enjoy teller shops. I also enjoy platform shops which have me ask about new accounts, CDs, annuities, etc. I think I know which MSC this is and that MSC will often a bonus for a teller shop if you have to open an account first (the large regional Green Bank). See if they will entice you to open an account at Valley Bank. I would probably open one anyway if I can find an account type which allows me to avoid monthly fees by keeping a relatively small balance, by using the debit card or just being youth-challenged.

@MsJudi Yes I want to open the account to do the teller shops but I want to also get paid to open up that account and $5 is not enough of a bonus to do that. Do you think I should just wait?
I sent you a PM

@Kristylynnr, if you don't mind sharing....what cities/state do you shop? I know of at least three of MSC's that do banking shops. Some you are asking for info on checking, savings, credit cards, pre-paid cards. The company that offers a decent pay to open an account will bonus them quite well (over $50) and if you have video equipment they start at $100 to open a checking account. You only have to leave it open for about one week and then let the scheduler know the account number after you withdraw the $20 you opened the account with. They will close the account with the client with no fees.
