I have never actually seen that request, but I haven't registered with any new-to-me companies in several years. I have been asked for a photo of me. I have been asked for a copy of my driver's license. It is not terribly surprising that some company might try to get the license and self portrait together--and certainly easier as a selfie with a camera phone than with a regular camera shot in a mirror.

The issue is ascertaining that the MSC is indeed dealing with the person they think they are dealing with. In the past companies terminated shoppers they wished to deal with no further only to find the shopper registered again using a different name. The request for social security number is, in part, an attempt to prevent that. Most states no longer use the driver's social security number on their license, so a copy of a driver's license is not proof much of anything. But it is illegal in most places to have a falsified driver's license or state ID, so a photo of you and your state ID or license shows their due diligence to know who they are hiring as contractors.

[Sorry, posted too fast.] If you got the name and website for the company asking for this information from our list of companies at the bottom of each page of this forum, you can feel secure the company is legitimate.

Some MSCs require a scan of your driver's license or state ID. It is possible, Be sure that you are on the legitimate MSC web site. At least one bank client requires that I submit my license with each report.

I dont remember which company asked this, but i do remember the request. But still, take the above advice.
I remember doing this. I also needed to send a full body shot. This was for a company that shops luxury retailers.
I've only had to send in a photo of my face, and also Ins. and driver license.

Live consciously....

The only time I have seen this is when I was an adult webmaster, and many companies required the models to hold up their ID to prove their age and comply with the 2257 regulations.
This was required recently by a company to apply for a sporting event shop (that I have done many times for another company). I didn't apply as this bothered me for just an application... ????

WOW! each report?

That is correct. Every report for that type of shop. I scanned my DL, and just attach it as needed. Some (reputable) MSC in the last year wanted to photo ID from me, so they got my passport as well. Some clients are really picky. think about it - if I am verifying an I-9, aren't they entitled to verify me? Seems quite reasonable.

Now that I have more info, makes sense. I need to update my background check, several I-9 verification near me
