Hah! 8 dollar gas station audits!

Does anyone else think this is ridiculous? Guess what they are still on the job board.

I recently asked a scheduler if people actually take these jobs. Yes, she said. They fly off the boards.

Except, of course, the ones 2 hours from civilization.

There are other ones, possibly a different MSC, that pay $4, $5 + $6. Those get done at base price too.
I know the 8 months I was in Salt Lake City, I worked for minimum wage of $7.25 an hour (yes, last year, LOL -- hard to believe that people can live on that). If you're working a minimum wage job, and get paid $8 plus a couple or a few dollars for gas, and it takes you less than an hour, it might look pretty fair to you.

I never did a single gas station in 8 months, because they all flew off the job boards. Truly.
They get bonused to $30. I can see people using them as fillers at $8.

I take the $8 gas mystery shops in NJ because it literally takes me 5 minutes since I only do the ones with no stores. I don't even leave my vehicle and sometimes have to stretch to make the time 5 minutes. So it's $8 plus $5 gas which I don't think is too bad as I'm driving along to other shops. However, I will not do the audit, ever, for $8. Way too much involved for them. Right now, for next month, all I see are audits and night mystery shops, so none for me. This is dependent on if we are talking about Market Force in this thread. It's the only gas station shop I would do for the low fee.

I generally agree. I had to get over my reticence of asking the attendant for only $5 of gas, but I have done that. The ones with stores near me generally do not have bathrooms, so they are easy if I can find something for a dollar. I have had some which have refused to give me a receipt for $1 or even $2 and I take a photo of what I bought, create a PowerPoint slide with the photo and a text box explaining what happened. I use SnagIt to capture a portion of the slide as a JPG and attach it as the receipt. So far, they have been accepted. But - that $1 or $2 does eat into my profit since I still buy $5 of gas (I am still mighty afraid [ = physical safety concerns or just outright refusal] to ask an attendant for less than $5 of gas). The audits are also $8 and I won't do them. Way too much work unless bonused to $20.

I've done the mystery shops for this price, but would not touch the full audits for the same price.
It appears the low fees are in more populous areas. They [audits] start at 12.50 in my area and linger on the board, must usually get a 20.00 bonus then I snap up the easy ones. There's a mystery shop (no audit) somewhat near me that has had a 20.00 bonus for a week. Just not in my route area. I almost scooped up it two weeks ago when the bonus was 10.00.

A Dad shopping the Ark-LA-Tex and beyond.
I had Samantha offers in my email for 16 for the audits (gas station). I am only interested in the mystery shops like others have mentioned.
I take the $6 convenience store shops all the time. I will make a route of 15 to 20 of them and spend the day doing them. I usually have to purchase a candy bar or water. The candy bars I save them up and donate them to our local police and fire stations. The water goes in the fridge. The job takes me 5 minutes. I do enjoy when they are paying more though.
Every so often I will get an email saying they will give me a $2 bonus for doing one. I have not done a gas shop in a good 3-5 years. I will do one when they change things and pay me $5 and reimburse me up to $8 since living in SoCal I am looking at $3.50 gallon - if I am lucky. That $3 makes a difference when doing 5 per month times 10 months (Skipping the 2 months they are audits). That is $150 and that makes a massive difference. I did a few audits when I first started out. Each one took about 2 hours and I got paid "BLEEP" for doing it.
To me it is just like Chick-Fil-A. Those Motherbleepers have the right to support whatever hate groups they want. I have the right to ignore them and NEVER give them a PENNY! They do - so do I.
I laugh at the schedulers that call and ask me to do gas station audits, 3 hours away for $7.00. And only 1 job in that area. Lol

You left out the part about them being upset or hurt when you do
I consider all $8 jobs a joke and promptly delete them as soon as I see "$8" anywhere in the header or text.
I have done a lot of Gas station audits , but i would never touch any assignments that require so much work and pay you $7-$8 dollars simply because its a waste of my time and energy. The cost to travel to the site and the required purchases that they will not reimburse make these shops not worth it.

I live in a big city in Southern California and they have not flown off the board.
They initially flew because nobody noticed the change to an audit. Now they sit. LOL. I took several when they bonused them up to a reasonable level. They aren't as bad as some of the bigger gas audits as far as time, I can complete on the app in about 20 minutes.

I have no idea which gas stations the OP is referring to, but here is my take. 20 minutes on site taking up to a dozen photos, 1 page of questions, and zero narrative should pay $15 minimum per shop.
Wait! You actually get GAS + $8.00!

WHAT A HUGE BARGAIN!

Here I am browsing Alta360's $8.00 self-storage shops. Just drive right out and tour the facility. No reimbursements for anything. ACL pays $25 base for self-storage shops. People have reported getting $75 on these types.

Alta360? $8.00
Question: if it mentions a convenience store but the building on site is a garage/repair shop, would it be just buy gas only? This is the MF 2 photo ones.
Yuppers....I do those all the time. There's an option for that. I check there was nothing to buy and only get gas. About half the questions turn into N/A then. It's as easy as can be...and restroom is N/A also so don't even bother with it. I don't even get out of the car for this one. This is not the audit.

It doesn't sound like you considered the time it takes to submit the report. If the audit takes an hour, and the report takes the same, you are getting paid $4 an hour. Also take into account the fact that you have to prepare for the shop prior to earning your pay. Shoppers who accept such low pay are keeping the wages down. My retirement checks keep me comfortable. I do shopping for extra savings money, and still wont do shops for that low a wage.
I got an email the other day for a visit that paid $5. I had to go to the site and do a "Super Easy" visit that would take a few minutes I was told. No idea if they were telling the truth, or not, since it got deleted ASAP.
I understand the MSC offering up these visits. Why not. If someone is dumb enough to take them - and someone usually is - why offer $8 when someone will do it for $5.
Good for that shopper. Unreal

For shoppers frustrated with the low fees, is one answer to be on the other side of the trade? I.e., become a MSC and offer OTHERS these $5-8 shops?

Why be exploited when you can do the exploiting yourself? grinning smiley
