ATH Power consulting first time shopper help needed!

Hello i have recently been accepted as a shopper for ATH Power Consulting and i have received a letter with instructions and a check for $2435 and i am to buy an item and ship the item to a disclosed location upon purchase and after the shop is done i can deduct $200 from the money received from the copany... is this normal or is this a scam? thanks in advance!

Whatever you do, DO NOT deposit that check. It is a SCAM. You are probably going to get lots of responses regarding this. No Mystery Shopping Company is going to send you money like this. Have you been asked to buy gift cards or money orders? Then keep some for yourself? Big time scam. You could take the packet you received to the Post Office. Mail fraud.

I was not told what i was going to buy they said that it would be from any wal-mart and they would let me know once the check had cleared what to buy and mail to them whatever it is. It makes a lot of sense what they are doing now.

The scammers are impersonating a reputable company. the real ath Power did not send you that check. the check will Bounce (might take a few days). Go to the police. Contact the US Postal Inspectors.

Thank you guys, i thought it seemed fishy but i couldnt find anything about it as it is a real company, im glad I joined this forum thats for sure!

Smart of you to investigate further, so many people don't do that and just jump on it. HUGE scam!!!!

Remember, no one's paying you before you do the work and cashing check means you have to repay bounced check amount.

Lots of companies are being used for these SCAMS! Check out the email address, that usually tells you if it is legit or not. Never ever cash a check for any job, you don't earn that kind of money, think more like $20. or less.

Ok, so I have never done this kind of work before...ever. I received a letter just like the one described in the original post. I was to deposit a check for 1980.00, text the company "FUNDS LODGED" and then once the money is clear I was to text them again with "TOTAL SUM OF $1980 READY" with my full name after. $130 can be deducted from the sum as my payment after I complete the task.

So this is fake right? I originally was thinking I might not want to do this because I don't want to drive far to shop and now I see this post that says this is a scam. I do not have time for scams in my life.

Yes, SCAM.

When do people realize that you DO NOT GET PAID FOR DOING NOTHING. Mystery shoppers get paid, 30, 60 , 90 days (in most cases) after the shop is excepted and done. Most simple shops pay under $20.
SCAM,SCAM,SCAM. DO NOT GIVE ANY PERSONAL INFORMATION ON-LINE-, PHONE, BANK...........

I think you knew it was a scam by the time you finished posting.
