Getting assigned to jobs you didn't apply to

I got assigned to four jobs I did not apply to this week. Really. Some were jobs I asked questions about, but did not say I could do. Another I specifically said I could only do on one day and was assigned it for another day. Of course, I had to kindly request that these jobs be removed.

I hope that these will not be listed against me, since they were cancelled. I'm wondering if schedulers might do this at the end of the month to show that their job is done, and that the cancellations reflect poorly on you and not them.

Has this happened to any of you? The sheer amount of times it happened this week was bizarre, all from different schedulers at different companies.

I have had this happen to me, and I promptly responded to the scheduler asking for the shop(s) I did not apply for to be removed. Unsure if I got a citation, but if I did, it did not impact me applying for and being accepted for other shops.

I've had this happen. I didn't confirm the job and asked the scheduler to send me a copy of my request or self assign for that job. Silence. Crickets No penalty as far as I knew.

Yes, yes, yes to all of your questions. They were all unassigned by the scheduler NOT me.

I've had it happen before (assigned something I never requested), but never in bunches and only very, very, very rarely.

Your situation does sound a bit odd, given the clustering of them. Could be an anomaly, but it could also be what you suggest.

I've also had shops removed after I accepted them to see them go to other shoppers (you can see it on Prophet platforms). When I asked what happened, the scheduler said it was unclear. It could be a genuine system glitch in the software, but also some behind the scenes pulling of strings so to speak to give shops to another shopper on purpose. Hard to know for sure.

One was, "I can only complete this on Tuesday," and then I got assigned for Friday. Same for a second, there was only one day I could do it, which I specified, and I was assigned it for the next day, when I would 300 miles away. The last I asked a question, never said I could do it, and was assigned multiples of the shop. I have had this happen before, but never like this.

Yeah, I've had shops given to me for days that I did not request. But, it was slightly different.

I never said I COULD ONLY do it for x-date. Instead, I said I could do it for that day. The scheduler gave it to me for another day and when I asked for a change, it was okay. They usually say "Ooops, I was looking at the wrong thing." or something like that. In those cases (whether they say it was their error or not), I just assumed a slip of the finger or misreading of my words. I figured they probably scheduled 100's of shops a day and occasionally mess up.

I guess in your case, it's still possible it was a slip-up and maybe even lots of slip-ups all bunched together too. Anomalies do happen. People do get struck by lightning and win the lottery. Could be a huge coincidence, but I wouldn't blame you one bit for thinking it was fishy either!!!

Schedulers not reading notes instead filling jobs quickly as possible. Never happens (written dripping with sarcasm). Most are independent contractors that are probably underpaid and overworked like many of us.

Yep, more than once, too. I have asked a question regarding a shop and found myself assigned. And what's infuriating, they still didn't answer my question. Honestly, I have questioned a shop's requirements recently and come to the forum first to see if others have wondered the same thing. If there has been no discussion, I hold off.

On that note, I have to thank the forum members for the heads up about the do-it-yourself retail store which requires a visit to two departments and purchase/return scenario.

This just happened to me. I got a call from a number I didn't have in my phone. It was a request to do a fast food drive through with a bonus. I agreed. When I got home, I had been assigned the drive through AND a burger shop three days later.
