Yup. I am a 'hard stick' and also need a blood test every three months for thyroid. I have an easy system in which I pay out of pocket for just the thyroid (very affordable) and the doc orders anything else when they want that. I am not going to mess with my workable little system, lol.
I, too, wonder about the destination of the collected samples. Are they sent directly to a legit lab? Discarded? Used, if clean or healthy, in those substitute products people can use when attempting to pass drug tests?
