To those who order the milkshake separately, do you take one picture with both receipts in the picture, or upload two separate files?

From what others have said on here, you can do either. Shouldn't make any difference.
5Guys shops are so unecessarily frustrating to begin with: I had to write in several times before understanding how to know when a shake was EVER required (because sometimes the instructions say nothing about shake, and others they say “$5, IF required”). Well why say anything UNLESS you want the shopper to buy the shake?! So dumb!

Then there’s the stupidity of ordering a shake and a drink - isn’t that a screaming tip off that you’re a shopper?! Like who DOES that; get a bottomless soft drink in hundreds of flavors, but I also inexplicably need a shake too?!

Maybe this MSC could raise the stupid reimbursement to more than $12.75, to actually cover cost of items a NOrMAL customer would order (because, sorry, it’s not normal to order a grilled cheese or veggie sandwich... unless you’re a shopper of course).
I’ve done several Five guys shops and have never been asked to buy the milkshake. I wonder why they want it separate? Doesn’t make sense I agree.
I worked for an aerospace company for 30 years, most of the time in Quality Control. I've seen people write up guidelines or insisted people do a job the hard way, just because they said so. I never listened to them. I was there to get the job done.
It is how they get paid. DO NOT order the milk shake without a drink this will void shop. I have also found out that when you do the online shop and you can not order you have to call the store and ask why. This is not in the documents anywhere but it voids the shop if not done.
I have only done this shop a few times so I am no expert but my memory of milkshake/no milkshake question was that if it was a milkshake shop you ordered a milkshake unless the location you were going to did not have milkshakes on the menu. Seemed pretty clear to me and the places in my area did not make milkshakes so I was always sad as I like milkshakes. I always wished they never mentioned the possibility in the guidelines as it made me jealous of others who could get one. And what seems like a strange order to one person is not strange to another. Personally I think it is strange for someone to order a burger with cheese and a big order of fries and either eat them all or throw them away. So much fat!! and so much waste. And then most city people go and sit at a desk for their job and drive everywhere so get very little exercise to work all that off. I cannot speak for non city people so maybe they do the same. To me a veggie sandwich would be my order. Hasn't the vegan craze hit where ever you are yet? If not it is probably coming. Seems like a year or two ago every confirmed meat eater suddenly became a vegan. Menus that before had only a baked potato on the menu for non meat eaters now have half a menu for vegans and the other half for gluten free, keto and all sorts of other diets. Woe to those who still eat burgers and/or cheese and flour. And yet there are two or three burger joints on every block and they seem to be surviving. Also when I watch the business report I see that Beyond Meat is doing very well across the country.
Two drinks? Happy that one can be held for later. I wish all shops allowed that. The one I do that requires a shake or ice cream also requires one pic with all the food as it is delivered so I cannot delay the frozen treats until the end of the meal. But on a thirsty day a nice cold glass of something and at the end of a meal a frozen treat seems appropriate for some. I grew up in a household where dessert came with every meal and breakfast was usually a dessert in itself with sweet pastries etc. My parents were very healthy on that diet if not a bit on the chubby side but I think I am much healthier not following their example.
In any case my long post is just to say that what seems a normal order to you may seem abnormal to someone else. I am sure customers order all sorts of strange combinations at times.
I believe the milkshake is separate, and no pic is needed, only receipt.... only did one milkshake and since I didn't order a soda, didn't get paid......

You will find the answer about ordering or not ordering a shake on the CPI. It's in very small print so you must look for it. If it says, "YES" you have to order a shake along with the other 3 things.

The purpose is not to make money. It is only for a good burger at someone else's expense. I do them now and then because I would never pay their prices for what you get.
My purpose with these shops IS to make money and have a burger that is pretty good. I won't do them without a nice sized bonus...and prefer $25 + in fees.

Being an engineer writing specifications (or construction “guidelines”), makes sense why I find out later the contractor built what we specified differently when I go through the as-builts because the people reading the specifications think they know better and just wanted to “get the job done” instead. ????‍♂️

This whole math thing seems to be more of a problem with people than I could imagine.

If it's one receipt, being we are all adults, is it really that hard to calculate the tax, then make sure the two numbers you report add up the the total on the receipt?

I'm doing two milkshake shops this weekend; they must have a really hard time filling these around here. I made an offer on one, not knowing it was a shake shop, the other day and it was accepted. Lately they've been rejecting my offers, but took this one. If I'd known ahead of time it was a shake shop, I'd have asked for more to cover the added inconvenience!

And then this morning the phone rang, and they offered me a ridiculously high bonus (higher than what I asked for on the first one) to do a shake shop less than 2 miles from me! So I took that one, too. They never give me a bonus that high for that location because it's so close to me.

Anyway, back to logistics: I'm taking my son with me so he can have the shake (I'll taste it, of course). I find them too sweet for me. If I order one fountain drink and the shake, and don't order a fountain drink for him, do you think it's a problem not having a second drink (for the second person) on the receipt? I mean, will they figure the shake is for him and not me? Probably a stupid question, because I don't think this MSC caresl as long as the required items are on the receipt, but as always, I overthink these things. Who, me? LOL.

The MSC is so odd about some things that I would err on the side of caution, but in this case, that would mean an unnecessary extra drink. I thought about advising you to not order the milkshake initially, so that you would have two receipts, which is definitely permitted. You are allowed to order extra food, so a second burger on the frist receipt would be alright. Curious to see what others advise.

LOL! A long as you do all the ordering and control what should appear on the receipt, this should be fine. Make the ordered items match the requirements. This way, any issues that show on the receipt will be something the location did-- not you or your son.

I think they know that for various reasons, people share meal parts. One order of ":Little" fries can feed multiple people. Some people might be counting calories or pennies. Sometimes, one person is ravenous when another is not so hungry. This shop does not require roughly equivalent meals. They will not be trying to nab you for having lunch with your son. They only need your receipts to match guidelines.

I don't want to eat into the profits too much on this nicely bonused shop, but maybe I'll have him order a free water with the meal! smiling smiley

Not a shop but I went into Five Guys and the little cheeseburger is $6.09. I have not shopped them in over a year. Isn't that a price increase? tongue sticking out smiley
They need to up the reimbursement for the shake! It was $5.14 plus tax today. What prices are you all seeing on the milkshakes?

So, I figured that for all the MSC knows, I ordered the second sandwich to take home for somebody... So we had just the fountain drink and the shake plus the other stuff. We had a strawberry shake, which, I have to say, was delicious except for being a little too sweet. But I guess that's how they make them.

Yeah, their prices have gone up. Here a little CB is $6.48. It's just about impossible to stay within reimbursement these days.

Yeah, the thing about the $12.75 is, they recommend in the guidelines that you order a hot dog or one of the sandwiches to stay within reimbursement. Isn't that kind of self-defeating? Five Guys' stock in trade is burgers, yet the shoppers are being steered to give them feedback on secondary offerings. I don't get it.
Wen I go I get: Grilled Cheese Sandwich, Little Fries, Large Drink. It costs $12.90 so I go over by 15-cents. I can live with that. I know this costs $12.90 so the other day when I had to get a shake and the total came to $18.49 (OUCH - that is a very steep bill for someone coming "on their own"winking smiley I knew the shake was $5.59.
My advice to determining costs: Pay attention to the register or Display that shows a running total after you get the burger/fries/drink. Once you see it, remember it so when you add the Shake you know how much the shake cost.
In my area the price of a shake is now over $5 meaning the $5 reimbursement for it doesn't cover the cost of it. I think I saw the shake reimbursement is now up to $6. When i did my shop the other day I got $10 instead of $6 so I figured I got $9 not $10 because of the slight overage of costs.

I eat vegetarian (not vegan) as often as possible and have ordered the veggie sandwich a couple of times to stay under reimbursement. I skip the cheese, because by the time you have grilled veggies and cheese on a bun, it's probably close to the same amount of fat and calories as in a little burger in a bowl with no cheese (which is what I usually order). Anyway, I found that the veggie sandwich simply isn't filling enough at all. I had to eat again when I got home! I usually order the regular fries to take some home, but I try not to eat too many of them.

It's definitely possible to order a burger in a somewhat healthy meal there. No bun, no cheese or bacon, mayo on the side, and lots of veggie accompaniments. My family laughs at me for having a burger with no bun, but I like it!

So.... I wish they'd let you know ahead of time if the shop is a milkshake shop or not. Both of the ones I did over the weekend were approved, and I had taken my son on one and my husband on the other. My son's shake was good but awfully sweet. My husband's shake was not good at all; very little flavor and way too sweet. I'm glad they were with me. If I ever do one by myself, I don't know what I'd do with the shake. I couldn't drink it, other than to taste for the report, and would hate to throw it out because of the waste and since it costs more than reimbursement.

The CPI clearly states if you need to order a shake or not, in red type (even if small). If people are reading their CPIs before doing the shop, it shouldn't be a surprise or confusing.

In my area a little burger, little fries, and large drink are just under $11.00 including tax. I have never had to order a shake but here they are $4.29 plus tax. I wouldn't do them if the full cost of my meal wasn't reimbursed.

Haven't seen those figures since they opened near me years ago. Do you live in a small town or an out-of-the-way region?

The Five Guys closest to me is in a suburb of Detroit. It is in a busy area surrounded by lots of other restaurants, stores, and offices. Definitely not rural or out of the way.

Wow - here in SoCal that runs $13.76 ($14.41 for cheese making that a damn expensive slice of cheese) and a shake is $5.09
I had a huge and perfectly good burger and fries at Happy Hour at BJ's the other day. It is a few steps from my local 5G. BJ's price for both is $6 with a burger 3x the size and a very large order of fires. . It's no wonder I heard that 5G is losing business fast.

I had one of the best burgers I've ever had in my life (literally) at BJ's a couple of weeks ago. And, yes, it was huge. It was their new Bistro Burger. I'm hooked. They have it on special now for $10 with fries, but I haven't seen their happy hour specials.
