How do you go about AT&T mystery shops?

The shops posted in my area of in-store shops where you purchase a cellphone or sign up for a service. One of them says that it is inside Target, but I've never seen an AT&T kiosk in Target to sign up for their services. Has anyone had experience with this shop so I can understand how to do this?
Any help is appreciated greatly!

Thank you!

I haven't done one in Target, but it's probably back by electronics. I have done the shop at regular AT&T stores. It was pretty easy.
Can you just return the phone you buy? Honestly, I'm not looking to sign up for a new ATT service. Would this be difficult to do if you were looking for the refund? Thank you for your reply.
I am an AT&T customer. I just added their TV and Internet service to my account and then canceled it when I got home over the phone. No fees, no hassle, not having to go back to the store. I don't know what a non-customer would do for a scenario, but getting a phone would be a PITA since there will probably be a restocking fee and all that. That sounds messy to me.
There is an earlier thread in which someone mentions having to return a cell phone and getting charged a restocking fee. the MSC, in fact, says that they will pay any fees if the return is done properly. Frankly, I am not an AT&T customer and have no interest in signing up for a new phone carrier, buying a new phone, and then returning the new phone. The scheduler tried to get me to order U-verse internet service, but it is not offered in my area. That would still leave ordering Direct TV as a non-AT&T customer and then canceling it. Has anyone actually done that? If so, what was your experience?

I remember from doing the shop that some of the fees are reimbursed, but I think not all. I think it depends on the scenario. But, when there is a $75 plus bonus, a couple of bucks won't matter much. A restocking fee is more like $40 I think, but I am pretty sure that fee gets reimbursed.

Not really sure what happens with non-customers. Why not go ahead and try it? At the nice fee and bonus currently being offered, it's worth it.

I might try a different scenario at a different location when the bonus goes up to $100 (which it probably will by mid December).
" That would still leave ordering Direct TV as a non-AT&T customer and then canceling it. Has anyone actually done that? If so, what was your experience?"

Guilty as charged. The worst part of the experience was worrying that my TV service would be cancelled and Direct TV installed behind my back.
If you chose a location in a Target and you call 1st to verify hours---be sure to verify electronic dept. hours not store hours.
It's my understanding that setting up a service with them results in a credit pull. Can anyone confirm?
Thank you all for all the helpful replies. This forum is very supportive. Really appreciate all of your help. If I had att service at my home I would probably do this, but I’m thinking it will be too much of a hassle with the credit pull and all.
I did the AT&T store shop. It was easy. I bought the phone wih my credit card, waited an hour, then returned it saying that my calls dropped. They gave a full refund, minus the restocking fee (commission), which was fully refunded by the MSC.

If you have good credit, it's not going to do much. Once you get in the high 700s a couple of points is no big deal.

I've heard you say this before. I have 800-850 credit, depending on the agency. I got one new card, a year a half ago, and my score is still down 20 points. I wonder how you don't get affected. This was my first new credit card in ten years.

Hmmm... I got a new (Major) card about 6 months ago and my score went down about 20 points for maybe 2 months. Now it's back up to the 840-850 range. I have noticed that in months where we travel a lot and use the cards more, we take a hit for a month or so, but rarely more than 15 points, and it recovers quickly. Obviously with a score that high you're making your payments on time/paying them off every month. Honestly, I think the FICO system is just baffling!!
I had similar questions this morning when i saw a bonus There is no internet other than 6 mg max Frontier or fancy plans that are $200 a month available in my 2 million dollar home neighborhood. I assume Direct TV is a TV service tho and I too would worry they would hook it up and mess up all that is programmed into my TV now. Can you just purchase a phone if you do not have ATT service? I am not sure if I can just use any phone at all on my pay as you go cell service which is not from att.

Did you sign up for a post-paid plan also? And you were able to cancel it when you returned the phone? Or did you already have ATT service? Thank you for your reply btw.
DirecTV is satellite TV with a dish. I accepted one today. I plan on canceling it long before anyone comes to install the dish.

You can't just purchase a phone You have to set up a new line (new or old customer) and get a phone with that line. That is why I don't want to do that scenario. I am limited to doing only one shop, so I am going to order DirecTV.

That's the smart way to go. They have to set up an installation. You can cancel before that happens.
I have Verizon Wireless and I will never leave them. For this shop, I set up new service, and got a new number. I went to the lunch shop nearby to use the phone and waste an hour.
