Mail shops, change of delivery address - any insight?

Recieving short responses from inquiries to MSC, still leaving me confused.

Anyone ever done the ship to home and change delivery to a discount store shops?

How quick do I have to be in my actions? If I don't get/see the package is enroute until later in the day. Do I have to ensure I pick the package up the same day or do they (discount store) hold it until next business day?
My locations are a good distance from my home and worried - 1, if I don't have a few hours notice on the enroute message. I won't be able to call and have the address changed to the discount store. 2, if I do get the message but it's late in the day and I wouldn't make by closing time to the discount store ...would they just return the package back to sense the next day before I got there.

I believe they will hold your package for up to a week after delivery. I did not get any of these shops assigned to me, but am familiar with the shipping company and have changed delivery address to a local drop off store before when I was not going to be home the day of scheduled delivery. It is especially convenient when a signature is required for delivery and I don't want to sit home all day waiting for the delivery.
