Only I could get stopped by Border Patrol for transportation of . . . Honey.
This morning I decided I did not feel like dealing with the snow, rain, and crazy drivers from LA headed to Vegas for the long weekend. So I made a U-Turn and headed to the border to take care of some audits down there.
My brother has a wholesaler client in Calexico who sells Mexican Agave Honey. He wanted a large quantity to use as Christmas gifts. After I was done working, I stopped and picked up fourteen 24 oz. containers. They were on my floorboard in the back seat so they would not spill.
When I got to the checkpoint east of Thermal, I noted they were waiving everyone through, which they have not been doing for a while now. I watched as all the cars ahead of me were waived through.
As I approached the K-9, it went crazy alerting on my vehicle. I'm like, "What's up with that?" When I got to the agent, sure enough he stopped me. He looked through the window and saw the containers. He wanted to know what they were. I said they were honey. He laughed and let me go. I guess I don't look like a human trafficker or drug dealer.
But this cost me time. I had already scheduled a JITB shop in Thermal. I try to do them for the company each month when I'm driving by as it's one of their harder shops to schedule and always nicely bonused.
Well I made it at 10:53 p.m. I sighed a sigh of relief. But with holiday traffic, I did not make it to the order board until exactly 11 p.m. The order taker refused to take my order, stating they were now closed. She did the same to all the cars behind me that were in line before 11 p.m.
I took lots of photos of the exterior and submitted the shop. Hopefully, I get paid. One other time while I was there, they shut down the drive-thru for powerwashing and landscaping before I could get in line. The scheduler said to take photos and document and I would be paid. I was. So here's hoping.
