I hate when that happens!

Anyone do shop, had a good time doing it, but forgot to do something required for the shop and as a result you knew the shop was invalid? For example, I did a shop at a restaurant tonight. I had a great meal and great company with my wife. I spent $38. I took great notes, got all the names and so forth, but I forgot to take the required picture of the meal! I hate when that happens.

Ugh, you can't recover from a meal picture. I did that this week with a storage facility. I was able to return and get the pics.

Yup. Did it last week. Took my picture of the drink, the cooler and just gobbled the meal as soon as it was set before me.
Luckily, they extended the deadline so I could go back.
Just did this last night. Man I never, never ever (can not say that anymore) forget to photograph my food. I am waiting to see if they will/can extend the deadline so I can go back and do it right this time.

Must be the time of year when we're too busy to cook and are starving. Too much on our plates with holiday shopping, mystery shopping, etc, etc etc. Bring on the food...gobble, gobble...OOPS

I am usually good for at least one Oops a year! I just had one last month when I mixed up a scenario. Fortunately, I was able to go back later during the shop window to do it correctly the second time. Salvaged the assignment, but had to eat the costs of my mistake on the first one.

"We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl -- year after year..."
I did this once on a take-out shop that had never required photos of the food -- until then. And even though I did read the guidelines first, I totally missed the new requirement. So I had to re-shop. A couple of months ago, I did a new-to-me dining shop, and knew that photos were required. So.... I got shots of everything, until dessert. We'd planned on NOT ordering dessert so we could stay in budget, but they looked so good, and we ordered spur of the moment. Naturally, I forgot the photo. Let the scheduler know as soon as I started the report, and it was accepted since I didn't miss any of the other photos or observations. Whew.

Probably a good idea to just take photos of all the food all the time....

I learn something new every day, but not everyday!
I've learned to never trust spell-check or my phone's auto-fill feature.
I did a reasonably expensive lunch ($80 no alcohol) and just took quick photos of everything, so that I would not have to note the delivery times and to refresh my memory about the presentation. Well, the shop had required photos of every item! Not my best photos by a mile, but they had no issues, thankfully.
I had already eaten my entree when I realized I hadn't taken the required photo.

Ordered a second, identical entree, took the photo -- and ate the entree!

(It was too far from home to reschedule or reshop.)
I take photos of my food whether I am shopping or not. It becomes automatic then--and allows me to do it easily without feeling that I'm sneaking, which is a dead giveaway.
I learned the hard way to give myself a little hint to take the pictures. Something I will notice but wouldn't be too odd if the server noticed, such as putting a green marker dot on my thumbnail so I see it when I pick up the silverware.
can you actually make a complaint about the food that you ate and have them bring you another plate?
or would that also disqualify by being non-discreet or making complaints.
I put my shop reminders on a 3/5 card (my cheat sheet) and circle photo where required. I check the card before entering the location. I then put my phone on top of my napkin ring and/or tableware so I am reminded to take a photo before eating. Even with all that it can still happen though.
That's completely unethical and also would count negatively towards the restaurant. It would also throw off your timings. You'd not only be likely to have your shop rejected but also probably get deactivated by the MSC. SMH.

I'm with Birdy, I'm starting to ALWAYS take a photo now because I did the same thing as the OP a few weeks ago! And then a few days ago after a great report and what I thought were all the required photos, I learned that I wasn't just supposed to CHECK the bathroom, I was supposed to photograph it! The MSC is leaving whether it's invalid or not up to the client so we'll see....

Shopping domestic and international locations since 2003.
I've done that before too. I've eaten the entree before taking a picture and then reordered the identical thing to take the picture. Took the second entree home and ate it the next day.

Haven't done it yet but it's inevitable. Got a LTO sandwich from a fast-food client (drive-thru shop), pulled over per instructions and was raising it to my lips when the alarm bell finally went off in my head.

I wonder, since others have said they've done the same thing, how you explain it to the server? Wouldn't that make you stand out as a shopper?

I did a shop once with my family, and we all forgot that I had to take a photo of the food before eating. Since this was on a family-entertainment shop, it was easy enough to wait a bit, then order something different. Get the pizza, and wouldn't you know it? Two of them grabbed slices and ate some before I got the shot. Since it was mostly intact, I took the photo, and the report was accepted. Had we ordered yet a third meal, we'd have been in the hole so far that I might as well have not bothered with the report and just enjoyed myself.

That will throw off receipt. Or if second receipt timing. Technically..... not the proper way to do it.

Times are also embedded into the photo. It's a good way to lose all credibility.

I have an integrity client that requires a photo of my drink outside of the bar within 120 seconds of being served. I take a lot of photos in hallways and restrooms and pray nobody is around. It gets emailed to the owner immediately for evidence. They verify the time stamps with the video and register.
Nah. Told them that it was so good, I just had to have another!!!

(edited to add: I use a digital camera. All my photos are date stamped sometime in 2007. I don't know how to change it. Some MSCs won't accept my photos because of that; some are still giggling over my incompetence. Well, I CAN change the date/time stamp, but after every photo, it reverts to the 2007 date. I'm not resetting it 150 times a day!)

The other day I did a pizza shop where I was supposed to get a large salad and any size pizza. To stay within the reimbursement I ordered a small salad. The editor called me out on the issue, but said report had been sent along to client.

I have only ordered the identical meal at a fast food type restaurant when I have made the mistake of eating before taking the picture. I do it the end of my visit where it makes more sense to take home something. Also, the shop had essentially already concluded.
My pictures turn out amazing, then I look at the burger and o.k., is this what they want. Now in the habit of taking pictures, and when they ask, was your burger "juicy", well, see for yourself. Speaking of the fast food only.

I forgot to unwrap the burger. I thought....luckily I was browsing my photos and the wrap had accidentally fallen off the burger for my shot! WHEW!!!
