Postal Shop New Requirement

Well, actually, most PO shops were shopped at one time. There were two other MSCs who had the client before (subcontracted by the current MSC). Back in 2001 all the locations in my area were shopped. Over the years, for some reasons, certain locations got cut from the list. I don't know why.

That's about when I started and remember the other 2 MSCs but have never ever seen some locations shopped. Some are in small towns right next to an even smaller town that gets shopped. Some in big cities where 80 or 90% of that city's locations get shopped.
With the labeling requirement, I did this on my last shop 2 weeks ago: orchard park BOX_(my city)_200102. "Orchard Park" was the name of the PO. For the receipt, I did orchard park RECEIPT_(my city)_200102. It was accepted without any issue, so I reckon I'll use that format. It seems to fit what they want.

Has anyone gotten reports kicked back to name the photos? I sent a couple shops in without naming the photos. They were accepted and I was paid. My phone does not have edit capabilities on photos so I would need to import the photos to my laptop, which has import difficulties. So, I'm going to keep doing it the old way until they tell me otherwise......
BUT, if any of you have gotten reports returned to name photos I guess I'll be looking into a new phone.

You can load the photos from your phone, leave some questions unanswered, then "submit". It won't go through incomplete. Open up the report on your laptop. The photos will be there. Rename them on the laptop by using the edit "pencil" icon. Answer the questions that you left blank. Then you can submit.
I've always renamed my photos, but I hope my format is correct: City of post office.item name.date, the middle notation being "receipt" or "package" or whatever. Last one I did was accepted, so hoping future ones will be.

I learn something new every day, but not everyday!
I've learned to never trust spell-check or my phone's auto-fill feature.

Thanks
I think that they want all underscores? I fixed it for you
I can't find the example of what they want for the format. Can somebody point me in the right direction?

Thank you very much.. )
This part will be "fun":
"Name all the attachments using no accents and should not exceed 30 characters:
Task Name_City_Date_Type of Attachment"

All that info using less than 30 characters. I'm sure shoppers in cities with long names will appreciate this. <sarcasm>
Oh, and don't forget:
Now the report must be filed within 8 hours of the shop.

I use the zip code because I can do 5 shops on the same day in the same city.

Yes, that would make a lot more sense. The new photo labeling requirement is not only time consuming, but kind of silly.
Silly, no....not at all. Makes total sense to identify for later recall of the reports on their side.
I don't see what use it's for the MSC either but I did start labeling mine a few days ago (all my non labeled shops were accepted without an issue). In my area I regularly do multiple shops on the same day in the same city and zipcode. Now their photo labels are the same. Oh well, it's not my issue to deal with.

You guys are scaring me to death. I have no idea how to name a photo, the instructions given above make no sense to me. And I have a bunch of these shops scheduled! Oh, no!

If you are putting the photo in a place that says "download receipt HERE" why in the world would you be required to label the photo as "receipt"?

I think I'll go throw up now and just get it over with....
Cease,

I'm guessing that the new naming requirements are a housekeeping request from their end. What you may not realize is that there is a computer backend to the reports that we generate. Those files we upload aren't stored inside the report, they are stored on a computer harddrive and linked to the report. The naming request is likely an IT request so if someone from the MSC needs to track down a missing photo from the 10s of thousands of shops this company does each month/quarter, they stand a snowball's chance of finding that photo on their photo storage server.

This is just my guess, but it is probably close to accurate...

Take the time to follow the instructions posted above and learn how to do the renaming. You CAN do it! If you can use a computer, set-up your Internet connectivity, fill out reports, etc. I am certain that you can learn to rename a photo...

We have faith in you!

"We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl -- year after year..."
Seems to me that if we're uploading them in a particular spot, it would be a much faster and more efficient way to write a simple program on their end that renames them according to the report.

"... they stand a snowball's chance of finding that photo on their photo storage server."

ROTFLMFAO. That's exactly what I am experiencing with this consarn dagnabbit WIN10. I download my photos (or upload -- I can't even keep THAT straight!) and then I can't FIND the suckers!

(And yet two more words spellcheck doesn't know -- consarn and dagnabbit!)
Oh, well. If I can't even FIND them, guess I don't have to worry about renaming them!!!
Geeze folks renaming them is computers skill 101. If you truly can’t follow how to do it go ask ANY teenager in the world. They know. It is simple.and to find them on your computer, if you are going to,accept computer jobs learn the process.
I'm trying. I just got this WIN10 thing, and I find I'm having to unlearn as well as learn new stuff. Gimme a break! I'm old, I OBVIOUSLY freely admit to NOT having Computer Skill 101 skills. It's obviously a handicap, and I really don't need to be insulted about my lack of skills!

I live in a rural area, with no access to classes of any sort to teach this stuff.

There are no teenagers to ask. The ones that will teach want $30 an hour -- which I don't have. Even though it's worth the $30, I just don't have it.

I actually agree with this post. Not everyone is qualified to do everything.
Wait til you're my age.

You know, "walk a mile in the other guy's shoes".

You have NO idea how much I have learned and conquered to do this job. You have no idea of the other things I do (volunteer work, for example) which aren't financially rewarding, but are immensely satisfying. You don't know me and my struggles, or my successes.

Sure, you guys can do many many things that I cannot -- but I'll just BET there's a thing or two I do that you cannot or would not.

Scuse me--------
does anyone here know about two cans of soup that were shipped Priority 2 day from AK to IL with no return address???????
A box smaller than 12 x 12 x 12 weighing less than 2 lbs was on my door step today.
Windows 10 is not controlling where the file goes when you download it to your PC. The location is controlled by your browser (the one you use to open your email program). If you tell me what browser you are using, I can easily tell you where to look for the file, and how you can easily gain control over where it goes. That is, assuming that you are using one of the common browsers. And if I can't, someone on this forum can.

I am saying if you accept a job accept your MUST know or learn how to do the requirements or don’t accept it.
I normally use firefox, but a few MSCs websites don't function well on that. For those, I use Chrome, and I have seen that looks and acts VERY differently from Firefox.

Thanks so much. I appreciate any help!

(The reports for shipping shops, I must use Chrome.)

Cease, you say you volunteer. Just an idea - is there anyone at the place where you volunteer that might volunteer back by teaching you some computer tricks? If it's a laptop you could bring it with you and they could teach you a lesson each time which you could practice at home.
