Regal HG

Who has done the Regal shops? Is it still written in third person? I'm do most of my work for ACL and Coyle. I also do most of my work in hotels and fine dining. I'm trying to get a feel for what Regal is like. Third person seems scary to me. Do you like them or hate them?

I do narratives all the time in the third person, nothing scary about it, not for any of the companies you mentioned. Just be sure you know what they want and ask for a copy of a narrative they want.
It takes a few times to get used to the third person. (Your the customer.)
Example: The customer observed the associate standing near the register. The customer asked, "What do you have for Science magazines?" The associate replied, "National Geographic?"

I could be wrong, but I seem to recall that Regal has removed the "third person narrative" requirement. I have not shopped for them for a while, but I think I read about this on the forum. Not sure where else I would have found out, lol.

I haven't done one in the longest time, but it was third person when I did and they wanted shoppers to refer to themselves as "The guest".

You are thinking of Dataquest. Regal is still third person.

The shops that I have done for Regal have always included narrative examples with the guidelines. Reading through them helps my brain convert to "The Regal Language." It requires a little extra thought because it isn't how I would normally speak.
I make sure to type my reports in word and do a search for the word "I" to be replaced with "the guest" before my final proofread of the report.

I've done six shops so far for Regal and their reports are always in third person. I wasn't sure just how anonymous I was supposed to be, so I emailed and asked if I could also use "she" and "her" and they said yes. For instance, it's okay to write: The guest placed her luggage on the cart.

I like Regal - the pay is fair and the reimbursement comes around the 45 days mark. Not bad. The third party thing trips me up sometimes, but now I wonder if I should just switch the third person for all companies.

Please don't switch to third party for all companies. Regal is definitely in the minority with that requirement. Each company sets their own requirements, and most of them want first person reporting.

Most requie first person narrative. Moreover, those that do not state that as a requirement are very likely to assume that it will be in the first person.

Also, folks, keep a lookout for the move towards gender neutral pronoun use. At least one hotel MSC now requires the "they/their" usage instead of he/she. Some newspaper style books have already made the change, and it looks like MSCs may be getting pressure from a few clients to make a style change, if only for that client.

It helps to remember that, when it first emerged, the use of MS was highly controversial.

"They" is a third person plural pronoun. I suppose it could be correct if the individual has a split personality ;-). Otherwise, it's just more PC BS.

There is a popular beer hall shop that requires reporting to be done with pronouns. It does take a while to switch over to that type of reporting. I will sign up for Regal this weekend and see how their reports are.
