To answer the op's question, it is for security purposes. One of my banks is so annoying, because it times out after less than 5 minutes even if I am still on the page.

Always always write your narratives in a Word doc first, and then copy and paste them into the online form. Make it a habit. That will save you just in case you do get timed out, and as a bonus you will have a copy of you narratives to save on your computer in case of future questions from the editor/client.
I made it a good habit to open a separate tab/window and checking to make sure I haven’t timed out and have to re-login. Sometimes on SASSIE or even ShopMetrics, I’m have to relogin, but by doing that in a separate window, I can save without losing any work.

Why the 30 minute timer?

Is it a reminder timer like Reality Based Group, which still lets you complete the report after 30 minutes, or a automatic shut you out sort of thing, OP?

I don't recall timed reports that I've done in the past year. I think I've done them before - just not recently. REality's doesn't bother me at all, as I know nothign bad happens when it gets to 0 seconds left.

Be careful. Sometimes when it comes to the SASSIE platform, if you’re logged out, someone’s your work disappearance even after you get a “please login” page when trying to save and trying to go back.

I know you can just save it, but what is the point of having a 30 minute timer when you can save it repeatedly for infinity. It is just little irritant for me because it is unnecessary.
When I first started, I did my first and only hotel shop.. The place was a dump. Anyway, the report was on a Sassie site and I did not know about the 30-minute time-out. I lost my narratives over and over and over again. It took about an entire day to fill out that report. I had not yet even learned about writing it up in Word first then pasting. A true newbie, I was!

Yeah - the thing is, I ALWAYS saved a copy into a word processor and/or my Gmail.

I wanted it for documentation reasons (proof of what I wrote, etc.). After a big fat paragraph or two, I like to copy and paste into my saving program. So, even if I ran across some timed report that would shut me out, I'd have my stuff saved anyways.

I guess that's why these never bothered me. smiling smiley

I really like the ones where after you submit, they let you download a PDF copy. Many company's software won't let you easily save a copy like that.
