How has the CoronaVirus affected you?

Really, really wanted to recommend this recent Lyn Alden piece to you all. It's analysis is extremely relevant and actionable (if one believes we are headed towards an inflationary devaluing of our nation's debt obligations and what that means to one's wealth and how to protect it).

The article reminds me of a recent picture hanging adventure. Heavy picture so it needed the hanger to go into a stud. The stud finder showed metal all over the place behind the wallboard. Three opinions and methodologies. The first measured from the corner anticipating that '16" on center' for studs and put a pencil mark on the wall. The second went to the nearest electrical outlet on that wall and tried to determine whether the stud it was nailed into was on its left or right using the stud finder. They then used the 16" on center to measure back and mark the wall with pencil. The third played 'tap, tap, tap' on the wall, listening for the change in sound that might indicate the stud was behind and made a mark.

Each of us had a good reason why our mark should be successful, yet our marks were not even within an inch or two of each other. A thin nail driven through the wallboard showed that all three of us were wrong. A few more almost random exploratory holes and the stud was found, the hanger secured and the picture hung.

Moral: Make enough holes and eventually you will find the stud.

Our area has a plethora of independent restaurants. I'm trying to find the sweet spot between supporting them via carryout and keeping my budget in check.

I vacuumed the entire downstairs of my house yesterday and took twice as long doing it as I normally would, and I polished my gas stove and granite counters. Today (or maybe tomorrow) I am detailing my master bathroom, getting into the nooks and crannies and washing down the baseboards, tile grout, etc. I have been cooking more than normal as well. At least cooking is fun (to me). Housework is, well...work.
Faith Perceptions sent out an email that they are ending their mystery shopping program.

I have been kind of sad about not having gym access (and we are no longer welcome to hike in the parks or bike ride the streets of L.A. for exercise) but was kind of surprised to find the other day that when I moved every single piece of furniture in my house and vacuumed/swept under it, my FitBit registered the same calorie burn as my regular workout! I tackled the store on Sunday and that was long overdue....but today I'm back telecommuting.

As of today, I'm going on 2 weeks of strictly home cooked meals, which is incredible rare for me. Might, in fact, be the first time ever!
I don't even know what to say...and I have SO MUCH to choose from!

JAS, the email said the program has been discontinued. It sounds like forever.

They're a very small company I think, and let's face it in person church services are gone for at least the next 3 months. Probably not a viable enterprise to attempt to stay open during the shutdown.

Well, I always thought it was a tad bit strange to begin with. Every church is different. They did a nice job with their presentation at one of the conferences I attended. I hope that their program did help some churches, but now what. Organized religion may never be the same again.

Who knows how long this virus is going to stick around, and whether it has the potential to reinfect the same people over and over again. Will there be an effective vaccine that lasts? Will people have to be revaccinated over and over again, or even vaccinated with a different vaccine for each strain if it turns out to be a mutating virus? Too many variables.
Yesterday I actually put street clothes on after my shower. Today (and possibly every day until the weather gets warm), I am putting on sweat pants and a sweatshirt or possibly clean pajamas after my shower, LOL. Right now I am debating on whether to make the bed and then get back in it or get with the productive project list.
I'm finding it hard to stay focused on work while being in sweats all day, so as of this week I'm instituting a 'dress-for-work' policy on Mon-Fri to see if it helps my momentum.
You have to remember, churches are businesses.

My church, as well as other Episcopal churches in the district, is closed until the middle of May. The pastor sent out an email asking members to continue tithing.

Last week, I attended a Methodist service that was live streamed. The format was the same as the Order of Service, including the offering. They provided digital sources to give.

On days I didn't go to the gym I always showered and put on my 'house jeans' and a shirt. Nothing's changed in that respect. However, I stopped putting on mascara (the only makeup I use on a regular basis).

This philosophy has worked for me. I always found a great use for my $8 wingtip beaters I bought at Target now, as they've never been worn until now! Great shoes, as they'll last a long time and can be worn inside my Asian home.

Shopping the Greater Denver Area, Colorado Springs and in-between in Colorado. 33 year old male and willing to travel!
I don't wear shoes in my house, either, other than my crocs which have never been worn outside. I have been that way since I first moved out on my own at 18. My family always wore their shoes in the house when I was a kid, I just couldn't stand it.
Today I used mobile banking on my bank's app for the first time. I never was afraid of using it or anything, I just always happened to be inside of grocery stores on a regular basis where my banks have kiosks, so it was easy to do my banking in person. Since I am not setting foot inside of grocery stores anymore and got a check in the mail today, I had no choice but to do mobile deposit. I will probably go back to banking in person after this is all over just because I like brick and mortar (plus gotta help bank employees keep their jobs).
The governors of both MD (my state) and VA have issued "shelter in place) orders, starting this evening.

DC's mayor has not yet done so, but really needs to!

I am drafting a new will (Mine is 20+ years out of date) and wondering how/where to get that notarized when I am ready to finalize it.

Not panicking, but trying to catch up on neglected chores. Is YOUR will or trust document up to date?

Based in MD, near DC

Have video cam; will travel

Poor customer service? Don't get mad; get video.
There was an article in my newspaper today about this topic. Some lawyers are doing everything virtually, then having people come and sign documents on the parking lot. (Missouri does not recognize electronic signatures.)

I think Maryland doesn't do it but Virginia does. I don't know how someone could get around that. I also don't know if it means that they don't have virtual notaries in MD but do in VA, I didn't read the article that closely. So maybe if they have virtual notaries in Virginia they can notarize in states like MD that don't? Worth looking into.
I do not want to stick my eventual executor with any problems, if possible.

After years of doing 20-30 garage shops per month, there are some attendants that I really miss interacting with. And also some that it is a pleasure to observe interacting with children whose parents are dropping off or picking up vehicles. Since parking attendants are quite accustomed to seeing the same people many times, that really does not make a shopper stand out from other customers unless the scenario is VERY strange.

Edited to add: Apparently while I was writing this the Mayor of DC also issued a shelter-in-place order. So, the entire DMV is closed.

Although I have not worked in the field for several years, I still have my (inactive) professional license in the veterinary field. Today my former colleagues and I got surveys asking us what tasks/skills we felt proficient at, and there was a long check list of medical tasks. They are looking at non-traditional ways to cope if the surge here exceeds the capacity of existing staff. They are considering bringing in relief staff in other roles, allowing the core staff to handle covid patients.

I'm pretty sure nobody wants me (with my training/experience) taking their temperature. smiling smiley
Up to date, yes. However, one thing not done is to add our children as authorized users to our safe deposit box at the bank. Contents include important documents. They know where the keys to the box are, so they may have to jump through a few hoops to gain access. The bank is no longer admitting walk-ins.

Q: How has the CoronaVirus affected you?

A: I was pretty bummed out watching them load dead bodies into the freezer truck with a forklift in Brooklyn today. Not the first time. It won't be the last time either. Imagine if that was somebody that you loved...imagine if it was you.
If it was me being lifted, I'm sure I wouldn't care (I'd be dead). A family member? Heartwrenching.

Same
re: notaries

They have mobile notaries who will come to your house/whatever place you choose in many areas. Possibly better than going into a bank (typical notary) where there are many people and where you can get infected with COVID-19. Although, many banks may be drive-thru only now.
