How has the CoronaVirus affected you?

So a tiger at the Bronx Zoo has tested positive for the corona virus and other big cats there had symptoms but were not tested. That's a game changer. We knew it probably came from an animal originally, but knowing that it could possibly transfer from humans to cats and vice versa...well.

My satellite tv company has given free extra channels for the month. Most just show movies and shows that are older but I can find a thing or two that I haven't seen. And then it occurred to me that there will be NO NEW SHOWS! Unless they can pull everything together remotely. UGH!

There is going to be a dearth of new content in the coming months. All of Hollywood live-action production is shut down, and I assume it's the same everywhere else.

Shows that had finished shooting can work remotely to get that content out right now, so there will be a delayed effect on the production shutdown as far as content goes. From my understanding of it, networks are concerned more about the summer right now, since there will no longer be the Olympics to rely on....

There are also new networks coming online int he next week or two (Quibi for one) that already have content ready.
I still have my alarm set to go off at 6:30. When the world was normal that gave me time to fiddle around the house for a couple of hours before my commitments started. Now I'm enjoying extra fiddling and an afternoon nap.

Anyone else here on the Forum besides myself and Sandyf who are not morning people???

Me, me, me!!! I am 81 and there are so many activities that I would like to take part in but they are held in the morning, like Yoga, Silver Sneakers exercise programs and now the morning shopping. I'm getting worse though about being up late and sleeping in - now it's getting later and later when I go to bed and later and later when I get up. Plus taking lots of naps. Thank goodness I love my computer, have tablet and iPad plus TV and MP3 player. I have both audio and eBooks downloaded and am pretty good at entertaining myself. This is Day 20 for me and I think I can go another week or so w/o groceries. I was/am addicted to one Coke a day and am now doing w/o "cold turkey."
I saw the news about the tigers testing positive. I also read a blurb somewhere about not petting a dog that the owner is walking. I love dogs and always stopped to pet one when I see a dog that is friendly and obviously wants my attention. So no hugs, kisses from humans or pets for awhile.
So, my question is, who got close enough to the tigers to spit/cough/sneeze on them? I still think there are more ways to spread it than what the media tells us.

They are working on the the assumption that one of the tiger handlers was infected.
Regarding the early morning hours at the grocery stores, I believe the intent is not to get you out of bed at an ungodly hour, the intent is to get you into the store while it is at it's cleanest. The stores have been cleaned and sanitized overnight so first thing in the morning is the optimum time to shop for seniors and other at risk people.

It also will have the most available stock at that hour.....
Coffee, JAS, & Steve, Yup, I know y'all are correct. But it still doesn't change a thing for me, personally. I just don't get up that early!!!
I'm not old enough to qualify, but I'm just not going inside of any stores regardless.
Here is info on the tiger (and all other reported animal infections)from AVMA

"It appears that dogs and cats are not readily infected with SARS-CoV-2, we have little to no evidence that they become ill, and no evidence that those that may be naturally infected spread SARS-CoV-2 to other pets or people.

Out of an abundance of caution and until more is known about this virus, if you are ill with COVID-19 you should restrict contact with pets and other animals, just as you would restrict your contact with other people."

Clearly said be someone who doesn't live with a cat. My cat thinks this pandemic is the greatest thing that has ever happened....
Im not sure. The only ones I've ever heard about was through a doctor.

That's a good question. I've only heard about them paying for orthotics.

K. One more wild hare. Can your doc prescribe shoes or ask your insurer to pay for shoes which you need?

Can you order online the EXACT same style & size you are currently wearing?

There are stick-on inserts for the heel areas of shoes which can help the foot fit into a slightly long shoe and/or prevent chafing and heel blisters. Can these also be used on the interior sides of the shoe in order to fill the gap between a narrow heel area and the shoe material?

All you late night and/or not early riser peoples out there...if someone is looking for a business to start when this is all over I recommend this niche for travel. I have never and never plan to ever go on a tour for various reasons but one of the biggest is the fact that from what I have seen these tours expect you to wake up early in the am, go down or miss breakfast and then climb on some sort of tour bus all before I am even willing to open my eyes. There are a whole lot of other things I would expect from a tour I would consider but the time the day starts is a big one...
All my life, not just now I have had to decline interesting events due to the time they start. Especially the kids stuff.
But the good news is that now the local big chain grocer here has free order and curbside pick up. I might use that next time I need food. Check your local supermarket. Mine is Ralphs, a Kroger owned company. Perhaps the entire chain is doing that.

Not at all stores...
Walmart gets deliveries during the day and process/ put out what was on the truck during the day too....
I just recently started shopping at Walmart after years of banning them from my favorite places to shop for groceries. When they started with the online shopping/curbside pick up I decided to try it. I was so pleased with the experience that I'm back to being a Walmart shopper again. Given that, with the C-virus, everybody was using it but I went online a couple days ago and it looks like they have available times again. My shopping trips are based on how long my quart of 1/2 and 1/2 lasts - or it did in the past. Since I still have food in the freezer, I expect I'll be drinking my coffee black for a while.
I'd like some travel/events based on later morning starts and at a slower pace, or really a trip for handicapped.

I would pay a lot extra to not have to shop at Walmart. Virus or no virus.

Yep. It'll take more than a world pandemic to make me shop at Walmart.
I'm picking up some dairy products, cleaning supplies, pantry items and tea towels at Walmart tomorrow. No fee with a $30 minimum purchase. My order was $31.17. Inexpensive tea towels will be used instead of paper towels and napkins. I don't have a need, but they can also be used to make face masks.
I went with my mom to shop Harris Teeter for senior hours on Monday (6-7 AM here). I enjoyed going with her.

The store was mostly empty and very quiet. There were carts labeled as already sanitized. Another section had returned carts not cleaned yet. A note/sign was typed to explain and it said to not return unsanitized carts to the sanitized section.

I worried someone may have done just that, as it's not that hard to maybe miss the sign. There were sanitizing wipes next to the already sanitized carts, so I used them with my mom to sanitize one anyways. Wiped it very thoroughly on all surfaces.

Shopped in peace. Fellow shoppers 90% of the time had face masks. My mom and I wore them, as she had an old one and made one from scratch as well. Most shoppers were careful not to get too close. Occasionally a shopper would come near us. I tried most of the time - when I saw them coming from afar and it looked like they were possibly going to get real close - to do a non-verbal signal of our desire to keep some space. I nodded in their direction and lifted my arm up in a "shielding" type of posture to let them know that I was going to and wanted to keep a certain space. I usually moved a bit over myself to indicate this. I think people who saw this understood.

Funny enough, the employees were the ones not social distancing that well. Some talked to each other within a foot apart (practically talking in each other's faces). Two older gentleman were talking in each other's faces and it was a situation where one guy's spit may have been flying into the broccoli next to them. Good thing we'd already bought our broccoli! A few walked by us within inches. I wasn't too happy about that. One was a manager, I think, who even talked to my mom very close by (within inches). I think he was just welcoming and greeting us (didn't catch exactly what he said, but that's what it sounded like) and was being friendly. However, I'd have preferred six feet of social distancing instead.

Overall, though, the place was still much more empty than during normal shopping hours. And that was very good for us.

We were able to get mostly what we wanted. However, the cleaning supplies were totally wiped out. Couldn't get bleach at all. At customer service, they did have cleaning wipes you can buy, but limit one per customer.**** That was the only cleaning supply we could find.

Check-out was open for self-checkout or serviced. We went with self-checkout. When getting a discount on some items, though, we had to have an employee touch our items (taking the coupon or something from them to enter in). That wasn't ideal. Nonetheless, it happened and that was the end of our trip.

Packed up the car and went home.

eta: ****I only knew of this, b/c when I called our Harris Teeter, the customer service person told me about them when I asked about the availability of cleaning supplies. I recommend calling stores to see what they have and if they have these possibly unknown to the public (at least, upfront or common knowledge-wise) things that you may not know about.

Our local liquor store now offers a pay over the phone, curbside service. No extra charge.
I need to be resourceful and figure out some sort of mask to use. The doc has ordered two layers of cloth over mouth and nose for when I am away from home. Meanwhile, I have a perfectly wonderful eternity scarf that would become gross and icky if I misused it. I have handkerchiefs which are old and pretty. They do not deserve such treatment. Someone said that bandanas are on the absent list. So..... hmm..... weeeelllll..... ummmm.....

Think I will rig up something with an old t-shirt.

The merchandising company I do work for is sending out masks and gloves to all associates. I will hold onto mine for when I go back to work this summer.
A t-shirt might not be tightly-woven enough. Not sure. My doctor suggested cutting up old sheets and pillowcases. I found this link to how to make face masks, although I haven't done it yet. I have several face masks my office provided me.
