How has the CoronaVirus affected you?

Also, if it's just the naming of a political figure, others have done that without ANY backlash.

sans Lighthizer, this is a list of incompetents and fraudsters with no high level of medical or economics expertise

Can't seem to respect the forum's rule of no politics eh?

There is no such rule: "No politics"
It's not a written forum rule, but it opens a door for possible heated discussions and things can get ugly fast.

No it's just a topic most people have avoided out of mutual agreement.

Hey Peg, how are you feeling? Hope each day finds you stronger and on the road to full recovery.

Since I'm over 60 and have asthma, I self-isolated for over a month, but my hubby and son still went in and out getting groceries, etc., and hubby continued to work. DESPITE OUR BEST EFFORTS, I GOT THE COVID-19 VIRUS. It is nasty, and the symptoms are varied, puzzling, and painful. After a few days of feeling like I had been run over by a truck, my son drove me to a local test site (after calling first) and we were immediately sent to the hospital, I was admitted, and the test came back positive the next day. While my state has not been badly hit yet (I had a private room with windows, and lovely staff to care for me - but they came in rarely, only when necessary or when they could combine several tasks at the same time. This is because they needed to gown/mask/shield up each time they came in -and I guess it's damn hot under there. Then everything they had on got tossed as they walked out the door.) It was very lonely, being so very sick yet not seeing anyyone for hours and hours on end because of fthe risks of infection. I never got to see the faces of the wonderful staff who cared for me. Even though I still had/have pneumonia, I was sent home on Saturday because my fever was gone and another covid-19 patient needed my room. Because my son drove me to the hospital, and even though he had a mask on, he must self-qarantine for 2 weeks and assume he has the virus until then. (So far so good.) I'm still battling the pneumonia. I was lucky to be in the hospital before the surge hit around here. THE MORAL OF THE STORY: BE CAREFUL, DON'T TAKES CHANCES, TAKE THIS SERIOUSLY - AND YOU DON'T WANT TO GET THIS VIRUS. I WAS ONE OF THE LUCKY ONES. I cannot say it enough - the annoyances are well worth it i- you don't want this. If I got sick, you can get sick too.

Yeah. "lol" was probably moving into the realm of "personalized political reaction."

I remember an university/academic forum rule once that said personal reactions weren't allowed. No: "LOL"..."that's stupid"....etc. However, saying: "This research is fraudulent because of x/y/z." was perfectly fine, as it was supported by facts and analysis. It was the "personal emotional reactions" that were banned.

I don't mind either way. One thing I do distinguish between also is an incidental mention of a political figure, say, Steven Mnuchin vs. starting off with the intent to talk politics. Maybe I crossed the line. My brain was thinking about COVID-19 and the economy (not politics) when I made that post. But, I can see how posting it with the wording I did may have seemed like a politically intended post.

During times like this, I'll just avoid anything with the appearance even of politics going forward as best as I can. Don't wont to raise people's blood pressure (a COVID-19 hospitalization factor) by offending anyone or by getting into a lengthy nerdy discussion (although, I love those personally!) of what constitutes "politics."

I'll take the safest route going forward (i.e., If I'm not sure, I won't post it)!

It's a grey area regarding what's actually political on a wide topic like this...but the concept of the unwritten rule is that while we may agree on MSing ideas, our overall political views may differ...do it's not helpful in the forum to sew discord.

And then there's the fact vs opinion argument, which also unfortunately draws into politics so much these days.

If someone posts that virus mutation could be terrible for us and I post a link to data which counters that, it's interesting reading. If someone posts that churchgoers are safe because god will protect them and I post a link to data that refutes that...it's heresy and politics all in one, and the whole thread goes down in flames!

P.S. While it's true that god cannot protect anyone from catching the virus, that statement was meant to illustrate a point, rather than to spark a debate.

Hmm.

As a matter of fact, arguments taken mindlessly to extreme, such as repetitive chanting of slogans without thought to etiologies and ramifications, is stupid. Such messages are programmed and possibly hypnotic or an aspect of conditioning. This method might accomplish someone's agenda, but it does so without any regard for the safety for all. Recently, the core necessity of one issue is steeped in one set of circumstances. Yet activists push and pull and bully and browbeat on every possible contingency, of which only one ever is necessary. This is stupid because it stamps out values and other higher ideas while dumbing down the general populace as to the broad information within and surrounding the entire issue. Thus, the activist level of the issue operates at the level of stupidity while the the core essence requires the participation of people who are extremely intelligent, trained and educated. These few must specific and current skills set.

If I named this issue, it would be political and cause an uproar. If I describe just the basics of the tactics, it is a critique of activism as this pertains to one issue.

I mentioned slogans. Mind you, this is not related to the Anonymous and Anon methods in which slogans are sometimes the right, quick thing-- and maybe the only thing. I truly mean to critique activism which attempts to brainwash many and distinguish between that and the helpful phrases that keep some people on track for their personal goals.

JAS, I'm ok. It's a slow recovery process ... still have pneumonia, still not able to get out of bed much. Hubby taking excellent care of me, but I'm definitely still sick. Everyone - wear your masks and self-distance! smiling smiley
To PegC and any of you shoppers who are or have been covid 19 positive but do not want to post that on a public forum, our hearts and thoughts go out to you as well. Stay strong and get better quick.
I like that post, but I would tend to think that anyone who has gone through this would want to post about it honestly, and to get that message out about how important it is to stay safe and healthy and to keep those who you love (or even strangers) healthy by practicing safe protective measures.
The COVID-19 restrictions have given me time to think about what I like about my life and what I should like to change now. I like that I worked enough to sacrifice sleep but had earned enough money to buy expensive personal protective gear. I don't like the catch-22 of not having enough work opportunities to earn enough money to buy the next batch of this gear. I would change this by adding a job that is compatible with early job (but a wrinkle in my IC work made me too late for a recent job training session and I will wait an indefinite while or perhaps forever for another chance there) and... well...

Aside from being sad and concerned for most everything, my home has turned into "The Office." We each have our own niche of the house and meet in the kitchen. During my lunch break one day, I bumped in DH. He asked me to "mush up some tuna fish." I told him to mush it up himself. Yes, I am testy.
It has made me more and more grateful for the humble, no-contact, early job. Never have I ever been so thrilled about rolling out of bed (sometimes in the midnight hour!) early in the morning.

I'm surfing for toilet paper on Amazon. Looks like the "nicer" brands are gone. They seem to have a "cheaper" version....has anyone bought cheap toilet paper from Amazon.

Ummm, does it ...tear really easily? tongue sticking out smiley
Keep refreshing. I got Charmin from Amazon last weekend just by opening the app 3-4 random times and day and searching for toilet paper. They add them a pallet at a time and they go in minutes.

Will try!
@pegc,

I hope that you are feeling better. I'm so sorry to hear you had gotten this. I'm asthmatic too and so are two of my kids. I worry a lot about one of us getting it. I hope you are feeling better very soon
I still haven't found toilet paper in the stores. It's a good thing I stocked up on stuff before this all happened, because I haven't bought TP since January. One of our friends worked for the city, and the city bought the wrong kind of TP that goes into the big roll things in parks/playgrounds a year or so ago. So the city was going to throw it all away and our friend asked if he could take it home. So we've been using that. He had cases and cases of the stuff. He's been sharing.

Sooooo...I "ordered" some TP on Amazon. When it arrived, I realized that I had ordered (or clicked on) FIVE of the SAME beginning reader children's book sets. What a disappointment. And a true moment of NOT paying attention....or being distracted. Or whatever.

I have heard that Costco has TP. Our membership expired. I suppose it's time to renew smiling smiley
TP started showing up again in regular grocery stores here last week and isn't flying off the shelves like before, so I suspect the hoarders have had their fill.
I was at the local grocery store yesterday and found two lonely - 6 packs of Charmin on the shelf for the low price of $12.50 each (which included tax). There has been none over the past few weeks, so I guess this is an improvement?!

Like bg said you have to do a lot of looking. The Amazon brand "Presto" is good but it sells out very fast. However if you can get some it lasts a long and is strong and soft. A lot of the brands come from China so there is a VERY long wait for it to get here. Read the reviews. Keep refreshing and look for a brand you have heard of. I got a batch of the Presto brand, I got an entire case (80 rolls) of Georgia Pacific which is usually sold to hotels. And I found some Scott when I was searching one day. I am pretty set now but before that I was looking every day multiple times a day.

We have enough TP to last thru about November of this year.

However, we've run out of napkins and dwindling on paper towels (maybe 1-2 months left).

Mom has said we're using toilet paper now as napkin wipes. smiling smiley

We're used to having 3-6 months of paper goods supplies. So, it's a little weird when we're out of something like napkins. Always buynig in bulk when on sale previously. Hard/impossible to do nowadays.

Discouraged by the $60 paper towels (like 2 freaking rolls) sold on Amazon.

Will take everyone's advance and sit and refresh all day/night. I do have a ton of time! THANKS!

If I sound like hoarder, it's b/c our NORM (since I was a young kid) has been 3-6 months of all paper goods stocked. Sometimes a year's worth of TP (if it was super cheap). I realize some people might struggle to find any. I probably sound crazy...but relative to MY baseline, I'm/we're low on supplies if that makes sense.
