Fry Count

Oh, this must be for a different restaurant than the one I'm thinking of. That one quantifies extra fries in terms of scoops and not an exact number of fries. They estimate the amount of extra fries in a small order at 8 to 10 fries, but they're not asking the shopper to count the fries.

It seems ridiculous to me to ask a shopper to count fries. Nothing like letting the employees know you're s shopper!

The trick is to not count out loud. And don't use your fingers.

Sounds like there are two different shops being discussed here. Five Guys and ???? No wonder some of us are confused!

Or toes.
I am talking about Five Guys. I skipped right over the question, and can confirm the report submitted without an issue. Not sure about leaving the narrative box empty, but since you don't need to answer the question at all, do not see how skipping the narrative box would make a difference.

I have never done a shop that required me to count French fries. Do you count only whole fries, or do you also count the fry pieces and nibs?
This belongs in the should-be-created sticky called 'Mystery Shopping Imponderbles'.

I am going to guess fry pieces and nibs count...since they were potato pieces that were fried, that technically makes them fries.
I take a sharp knife and cut the whole fries down to the size of the nibs. I then count them very carefully, in English, Spanish, and French. I put all three counts in the report. If my counts are off substantially, I bring the pieces back to the cashier and complain that their fries are uncountable.

Don't know about the bun comments box since I always add a bit of narrative to it, but maybe it is the same. Let us know if you try it.
I'm filling out a report now and tried to skip the bun question. It won't let you do it, you have to type something.
I had the same experience yestrday, you can't leave the field blank. I estimate a number based upon an average length fry (combining the small ones mentally).

For FGs, you have to answer the question in the US. There is a series of questions, then a comment box that opens up to describe your estimated amount.

You can estimate any way you want. They dumped in a tray full, a scoop full, they threw a bunch in the air and captured them in the bag like a magic trick. There was a handful of fries, they were all small and burt. I found some fries by using my magnifying glass.

See, I was going to add that. But I realized that if toes were needed, for most people that means there were at least 8-10 fries already.

Only HB and a few others can start a thread about something like this and keep it going...and going...and going...
Can you type, "Nice buns, grrrr."?

I have never counted fries for 5Gs. I've done about a 100 of them, and I always thought the question said something about estimating how many extra fries you received. I think a previous question ask if you received an extra half scoop, so I always answer in terms of scoops. Anyway, I always say I received at least an extra half scoop, extra full scoop, or I received at least two full scoops of fries depending on my eyeball estimate.

LOL.....And here we are, complicit.
You can only skip the bun question if you answer "no" to getting a bun.

To sum it up...you have to answer yes or no to if you were satisfied with the quantity of fries. If you are satisfied with the quantity of fries, you DO NOT need to enter an answer for the number of fries you received in any way, shape or form...number, scoops or otherwise.

You DO need to enter a bit of narrative about the fries and the bun.

As I recall, buns might be fresh, grilled, toasted, or (in the worst case scenario) stale, cracked, torn, showing bite marks, crumbling, upside down, inside out, or whatever else can happen in hamburger bun world.

For the Fast Casual shop that's hell for anyone with the peanut allergy, I usually give a range. My little tries are usually about 15-20 extra fries, but sometimes I'm too busy scarfing them down to truly count lol.
